Description
Pellon 70 Peltex is the ultra-firm, smooth, heavyweight sew-in stabilizer for projects that must hold a rigid shape: fabric boxes and bowls, structured bag bases, hat brims, tote panels, placemats and home decor. It is 100% polyester, has no grain so it can be cut in any direction, and will not flatten or distort under steam pressing. Despite its stiffness it sews easily, even sandwiched between other fabrics.
White is the standard; for dark fabrics, where a pale edge or needle hole would show, use the black version. This is the sew-in Peltex 70; it has no adhesive, so it is basted, stitched into seams or sandwiched. The 20" x 10 yard bolt cuts bag bases and box panels with little waste. For a stabilizer that is firm but still bends, step down to Pellon 926 Sew-In Extra-Firm or Pellon 40 midweight.

Compare and choose
- Peltex 70 vs 926 Extra-Firm vs 40 midweight: how stiff do I need?
- Peltex 70 is the stiffest of the three, a board-like layer for boxes, bowls, brims and bag bases that should not flex. 926 Sew-In Extra-Firm is firm but bends, for bag walls and bowls that hold a shape with some give. Pellon 40 is midweight for soft-structured totes and backing. If the piece should stand up on its own with flat sides, use Peltex. Pellon 926 Sew-In Extra-Firm 20" bolt
- Peltex vs Decovil vs Soft and Stable for a structured bag?
- Peltex gives rigid, flat panels and is sewn in. Decovil 526 is thinner, fuses on and has a leather-like hand that bends without creasing, good for bag bodies and flaps. Soft and Stable is a foam that gives padded, quilted structure. A common combination is Decovil or foam in the body with a Peltex base. Pellon 526 Decovil 17" x 54" package
- Is there a fusible Peltex?
- This is the sew-in Peltex 70. Pellon also makes one-sided and two-sided fusible versions; we do not currently stock them. For a fusible ultra-firm layer, the closest items we carry are Fast2Fuse heavyweight and Bosal Heat Moldable. Fast2Fuse heavyweight 15" x 18"
- Can I press or steam Peltex?
- Yes. Pellon states it will not flatten or distort with steam pressing, so you can press seams over it and shape it under steam. Use a press cloth on the fabric as usual.
- Does it have a grain?
- No. Peltex has no grain and can be cut in any direction, so lay out pattern pieces to use the 20" width as efficiently as you like.
- Black or white Peltex?
- Choose black behind black, navy or other dark fabrics, where a white edge at a seam or a needle hole would show. Use white under everything else. Pellon 70 Peltex in black
