Description
Pellon 926 Sew-In Extra-Firm is a heavyweight stabilizer you stitch in rather than fuse. It is firm yet flexible, which is exactly what purses, fabric bowls, baskets and other three-dimensional craft projects need: enough body to hold a shape, enough give to turn and sew. The 20" x 10 yard bolt is the bag-maker's size and the width most bag patterns are drafted for.
It is 100% polyester, easy to cut, mark and sew, and sewing-machine safe. Because nothing is ironed on, it works with fabrics that cannot take heat and lets you reposition before stitching. For a stiffer sew-in, see 70 Peltex Ultra-Firm; for a fusible with similar body, 809 Décor-Bond.

Compare and choose
- 926 Extra-Firm vs Peltex 70 Ultra-Firm: which is stiffer?
- Peltex 70 is stiffer; it is nearly board-like and is for bag bases, box sides and anything that must stand up with no flex. 926 is firm but still bends, so it is better for bag bodies, bowls you shape with darts, and brims. If you want a bag that keeps its shape but can be turned right side out without a fight, 926 is the easier choice. Pellon 70 Peltex Ultra-Firm Sew-In
- Sew-in 926 or fusible Décor-Bond 809?
- Similar firmness, different attachment. Décor-Bond is ironed on, so the fabric and stabilizer act as one layer and there is nothing to baste. 926 is sewn in, so it works on heat-sensitive fabrics, can be repositioned, and never bubbles. Choose by the fabric and your preference for pressing versus basting. Pellon 809 Décor-Bond 45" x 10 yd
- 926 vs foam stabilizers like Soft and Stable or In-R-Form?
- Foam gives a padded, cushioned structure and a rounded look; 926 gives a flat, firm panel. Foam suits quilted totes and padded pouches; 926 suits bowls, boxes, hat brims and bags that should look crisp rather than puffy. Some bag makers use both: foam in the body, 926 in the base. - How do I attach a sew-in stabilizer in a bag?
- Cut it to the pattern piece minus seam allowances, or to the full piece if the pattern says so, baste it to the wrong side of the fabric inside the seam line, then construct as usual. Quilting or topstitching through it keeps it from shifting; trim it out of seam allowances to reduce bulk.
- Can I shape a fabric bowl with it?
- Yes. Pellon recommends it for bowls and 3D projects. Cut the circle or petal shape, sew darts to form the sides and the firmness holds the curve. For a bowl that is fused rather than sewn, use 731 Fuse-N-Shape instead. Pellon 731 Fuse-N-Shape heavyweight
- Will it go through a home sewing machine?
- Yes. It is designed to be sewing-machine safe and is easy to cut and sew. Use a sharp or denim needle for layered seams and lengthen the stitch slightly.
