Description
Pellon 526 Decovil is the structure layer serious bag makers reach for: a one-sided fusible interfacing with a firm, leather-like hand that holds its shape for the life of the project. It fuses in place with no pinning or basting, cuts with edges that stay tight, and is tear-resistant yet dimensionally stable and easy to shape. Decovil can be punched, resists bending, and sews cleanly on a home machine with natural or synthetic fabrics.
This 17" x 54" package is sized for a structured handbag, a pair of hat brims, or a set of fabric bowls. If you make bags regularly, the 10-yard bolt is the cheaper way to buy it. For shapes that still need some give, Pellon 525 Decovil Light is the softer, more flexible version.

Compare and choose
- What is the difference between Pellon 526 Decovil and 525 Decovil Light?
- 526 is the firmer, heavier of the two, with a leather-like body for structured bags and brims. 525 Decovil Light is softer and more flexible for shapes that still need some give, such as soft-structured bags, curved bowls and hat crowns. They fuse the same way. Pellon 525 Decovil Light 17" x 10 yd bolt
- How do I fuse Pellon 526 Decovil?
- Place the adhesive side against the wrong side of your fabric, cover with a damp press cloth, and press with an iron on the wool setting about 6 seconds per section. Let it cool flat before handling.
- Can I sew through Decovil?
- Yes. Despite its firm hand it is machine-sewable. Use a 90/14 needle, lengthen your stitch slightly, and trim Decovil out of seam allowances to reduce bulk.
- Is one 17" x 54" package enough for a bag?
- Usually, yes. Most structured handbag patterns call for 1/2 to 1 yard of Decovil, and this package is 1 1/2 yards at 17" wide: one handbag, a pair of hat brims, or a set of fabric bowls. Check the pattern's interfacing yardage against the 17" width before cutting. Pellon 526 Decovil 17" x 10 yd bolt
- Decovil vs Peltex vs Soft and Stable: which should I use for a structured bag?
- Decovil is thin, fusible and leather-like; it gives a bag firm walls without padding and can be shaped. Peltex 70 is a stiff sew-in board for flat panels, boxes and brims that must not flex at all. Soft and Stable is a foam that gives padded, soft structure and is quilted through. Many bag makers combine them: Decovil in bodies and flaps, Peltex in the base.
