Description
Pellon Natural Cotton with Scrim, pre-cut into a continuous 2.5" strip and rolled 50 yards long. This is the full-rug size: the classic oval jelly roll rug pattern calls for about 50 yards of batting strip, and this roll covers it in one purchase with no joins. It is also the economical choice if you make rope bowls, coiled baskets, padded bag straps or quilt-as-you-go strips in quantity.
The strip is the same 93% cotton, 7% polypropylene scrim batting as our Pellon cotton packages: 1/16" loft, 3-5% shrinkage, quilting up to 10" apart, and hand or machine washable. The scrim is what makes it work as a strip; it gives the narrow batting enough tensile strength that it does not stretch, bunch or beard as you wrap, coil and sew.

Compare and choose
- Is 50 yards enough for a jelly roll rug?
- Yes. The classic oval jelly roll rug calls for roughly 50 yards of 2.5" batting strip, so this roll covers a full rug without piecing rolls together. Larger or rectangular rug patterns may call for more; check your pattern.
- 50 yard or 25 yard roll?
- For a rug, the 50. For bowls, baskets, straps and trivets, the 25 yard roll is plenty and costs less. Pellon jelly roll batting 2.5" x 25 yards
- Why does the scrim matter in a batting strip?
- A 2.5" strip of scrimless batting stretches and tears as you wrap fabric around it. The needle-punched scrim gives the Pellon strip tensile strength, so it stays the same width through wrapping, coiling and zigzag stitching and does not beard through the fabric.
- Pellon jelly roll batting vs Bliss for Jelly Rolls?
- Both are 2.5" cotton strips sold in 25 and 50 yard rolls. Bliss is 100% cotton with no scrim, which is softer but less stable in the strip; Pellon has a scrim and holds its shape better under the zigzag. For rugs and bowls that take a beating, we lean toward the scrim; for a very soft strap, either works. Bliss for Jelly Rolls 2.5" x 50 yd
- Do I need to cut anything?
- No. The strip comes pre-cut at 2.5" in one continuous length, which saves slicing batting yardage into rug strips by hand. Cut it only where your pattern joins fabric strips.
- Can I use it for a microwave bowl cozy?
- No. The polypropylene scrim is not microwave-safe. Use Pellon Wrap-N-Zap for anything that goes in the microwave. Pellon Wrap-N-Zap
