Description

Quilters Dream Select Black Poly is the Midnight Black version of Dream Poly, a polyester batting made from fine denier microfibers with more than 60 million fibers per pound. It is a true deep black, which keeps dark fabrics rich instead of letting a white batting show through needle holes and seams. Buy it for black, navy, brown, burgundy and forest-green tops, and for modern quilts with dark negative space.

Each roll is 60" wide by 30 yards. That width covers throw quilts, baby and crib quilts, table runners and wall hangings in one piece, and the 30-yard length works out to roughly fifteen throw-size cuts. It is the roll we point longarmers to for lap-quilt production and for small customer jobs where a 93" roll would waste batting. For twin tops and larger, use the 93" roll.

Select is the mid loft. The batting is needle-punched with no scrim, resin or glue, resists bunching and shifting, and can be quilted up to 12" apart. It does not shrink, resists creasing in storage and travel, and is not microwave-safe.

This roll is sold on pre-order and ships in roughly 8 weeks.

Compare and choose

Do I really need black batting for a dark quilt?
If the top and backing are mostly black or deep colors, yes. White batting fibers migrate through needle holes and show at the seams as tiny light flecks, and a white layer under thin black fabric lightens the color. Black batting disappears. Under medium or mixed-color tops the white poly is fine. Select White Poly roll
Dream Black Poly vs Hobbs Heirloom Black 80/20: which should I buy?
Hobbs Black is an 80/20 cotton-poly blend: it feels like cotton, shrinks 3-5% and wants quilting within 4". Dream Black Poly is 100% microfiber polyester: lighter, no shrinkage, quilts up to 12" apart and dries fast. Choose Hobbs for a traditional-feeling dark quilt; choose Dream Black Poly for a modern flat finish and easy care. Hobbs Heirloom Black 80/20 108" roll
Is a 60" roll wide enough for a twin quilt?
No. A twin top is about 72" wide and you want batting at least 4" wider than the shorter side of the top. The 60" roll is sized for throws (60" x 72" and smaller), crib quilts, runners and wall hangings. For twin and larger, step up to the 93" roll. 93" roll
Will the black batting show through a light fabric?
It can. Keep black batting for dark tops and backings. If the backing is light, use the white poly instead and accept a little show-through on the dark side, or choose a mid-tone backing.
Does Dream Poly shrink?
No. It has no shrinkage, so with pre-washed fabrics the finished quilt stays flat and modern-looking after washing rather than crinkling.
Is it microwave-safe?
No. Polyester is not safe in the microwave. For bowl cozies and hot pads use a 100% cotton batting without scrim and cotton thread.
Do you ship batting rolls to Alaska or Hawaii?
No. Rolls and boards ship only to the 48 contiguous states; orders from Alaska, Hawaii or outside the US are cancelled and refunded. Pre-cut packages ship to all locations. Shop packaged batting
