Description
Kimberbell Sticky-Back Tear-Away is a medium-weight tear-away stabilizer with a light adhesive coating. It is for stable, non-stretch fabrics such as quilting fabrics, vinyl, leather, cotton blends, denim, terrycloth and utility fabrics, and it tears neatly from stitched areas on projects where no permanent backing is needed.
The sticky back makes it the go-to for in-the-hoop projects and items that are hard to hoop: hoop the stabilizer, expose the adhesive and place the fabric on top. It also grips tightly woven and slippery fabrics so they do not shift. The 20" x 5 yard roll is the width for large and multi-position hoops.

Cuts are the hoop size plus about 2" each way, laid along the 5 yd length at the 20" width and turned where that fits more. Counts are approximate and assume no waste.
Compare and choose
- Sticky-back tear-away vs regular tear-away: when do I need the adhesive?
- Use the sticky version when the item will not hoop well, such as vinyl, leather, small pieces and in-the-hoop projects, or when hoop marks would show. If the fabric hoops smoothly, a plain medium tear-away does the same support job for less. Medium tear-away 12" x 10 yd
- Can I use it on t-shirts or knits?
- No. It is made for stable, non-stretch fabrics. Knits need a cut-away that stays in after stitching, or the design will distort as the fabric stretches. StabilStick CutAway 15" (sticky cut-away)
- How do I hoop sticky-back stabilizer?
- Hoop the stabilizer alone with the paper facing up, score the paper inside the hoop with a pin and peel it off, then press your fabric or project pieces onto the adhesive.
- Is it good for vinyl and leather?
- Yes. Vinyl and leather show hoop marks and do not like pins, so sticking them to an adhesive tear-away is the usual method. Use a fresh needle and avoid very dense fills that can perforate the material.
- Roll or precuts: which should I buy?
- The 20" x 5 yard roll is the width for large and multi-position hoops. The stabilizer is the same in every format. 12" x 10 yard roll
