Description
OESD StabilStick CutAway is a medium-weight cut-away embroidery stabilizer with a light adhesive coating. You hoop the stabilizer alone, expose the adhesive and press the fabric onto it, so pieces that are hard to hoop, or that would show hoop marks, stay put while they stitch.
Being a cut-away, it stays in the project after you trim the excess, so it keeps supporting the design through wear and washing. That makes it the right choice for knits and stretchy fabrics such as jeans and garments that stretch as they are worn, and for multi-hoop projects. The 15" width covers 6" x 10" and 8" x 12" hoops in one piece.

Cuts are the hoop size plus about 2" each way, laid along the 10 yd length at the 15" width and turned where that fits more. Counts are approximate and assume no waste.
Compare and choose
- StabilStick CutAway vs TearAway: which do I need?
- Use CutAway on knits and anything that stretches, because it stays in and supports the stitches for the life of the garment. Use TearAway on stable, tightly woven or slippery fabrics that do not stretch, where you want the backing gone after stitching. Both have the same light adhesive. StabilStick TearAway 15"
- How do I use an adhesive-backed stabilizer?
- Hoop the stabilizer by itself with the release paper facing up, score the paper inside the hoop with a pin and peel it away, then press your fabric onto the exposed adhesive. This holds collars, cuffs and small items that will not go in a hoop.
- Is a sticky cut-away right for t-shirts?
- Yes, a cut-away is the right family for knits, and the adhesive helps when a shirt is hard to hoop smoothly. Do not stretch the knit as you press it onto the adhesive, or the design will pucker when it relaxes.
- Do I need the adhesive version or a plain cut-away?
- If you can hoop the fabric smoothly, a plain medium cut-away does the same support job. Choose StabilStick when the item is hard to hoop, would show hoop marks, or needs repositioning between hoopings. Plain CutAway Medium 15"
- What weight cut-away should I use for my design?
- Medium weight suits most designs on t-shirts, polos and light sweatshirts. Very dense designs with high stitch counts on heavy knits need a heavier cut-away; light, open designs on fine knits look smoother on a mesh such as PolyMesh. PolyMesh 15"
