Description
Acadia Premium is a midweight 4 oz batting of 80% cotton and 20% polyester, triple-carded and needle-punched to a scrim. The scrim makes it extremely stable, so you can stitch up to 8" apart, and it needs no pre-shrinking. It is part of the Autumn (4 oz) weight range, with a medium loft that gives a quilt more body than a thin cotton.
This package measures 72" x 90", sized for twin bed quilts and generous throws. Choose it when you want the breathability of cotton with the strength and easy care of a blend, and the freedom to space your quilting widely.
Because the scrim holds the fibers together, it suits open edge-to-edge designs and other quilting where the lines are far apart.

- Acadia 80/20 vs Hobbs Heirloom 80/20: what is the difference?
- Both are 80% cotton, 20% polyester. Acadia is a 4 oz midweight with a scrim and can be quilted up to 8" apart. Hobbs Heirloom 80/20 is a low loft (about 1/8") with no scrim and should be quilted within 4", which gives a flatter, crinklier traditional finish. Choose Acadia for wide quilting and more body, Hobbs Heirloom for dense quilting and an antique look. Hobbs Heirloom 80/20 packages
- Acadia 80/20 vs Katahdin 100% cotton in the same 4 oz weight?
- Katahdin Autumn and Premium 4 oz are 100% cotton with no scrim or resins, and also quilt up to 8" apart. Acadia adds 20% polyester and a scrim for extra strength and stability. Pick Katahdin if a pattern calls for pure cotton; pick Acadia for a sturdier everyday quilt. Katahdin 4 oz cotton, similar size
- Is the twin 72" x 90" batt big enough for my quilt?
- Plan on batting at least 2" larger than your top on every side, and about 4" on every side if it is going on a longarm frame. This 72" x 90" batt covers finished tops up to about 68" x 86" for domestic quilting, or about 64" x 82" on a longarm. For a larger top, step up to the 90" x 96". 90" x 96"
- Do I need to pre-wash Acadia batting?
- No. Acadia needs no pre-shrinking; layer it straight from the package.
- Can I use Acadia for a microwave bowl cozy or hot pad?
- No. It contains polyester and a scrim, so it is not microwave safe. Use a 100% cotton batting with no scrim or polyester, or Pellon Wrap-N-Zap, with cotton fabric and thread. Pellon Wrap-N-Zap
