Moda Fusible Seam Batting Tape (MI 107) turns leftover batting into a usable piece. Butt two straight edges together, press the tape over the join, and the scraps behave like one batt. It is the tape for quilters who save every trimmed-off strip from their longarm and want to put those strips back to work.
The tape is 1.5" wide, 100% polyester, sheer and lightweight, with adhesive on one side only. The bond is permanent. It is easy to machine or hand quilt through and will not gum up your needle. Once fused, the joined batting can be machine washed and dried or dry cleaned. Each roll holds 15 yards, enough for about five seams the length of a queen batt.

- Both are 1.5" iron-on tapes for joining batting. Moda MI 107 is a sheer, lightweight polyester tape with a permanent one-sided bond. Heat Press Batting Together is a soft cloth tape that stretches with the batting, which some quilters prefer on large quilts and lofty battings. Either one quilts through without gumming the needle. - How much batting tape do I need?
- One length of tape per seam, the full length of the join. This 15-yard roll is 540", so it covers about five seams along a 108" queen-length batt, or many more short joins when you are piecing small scraps.
- How do I join batting with this tape?
- Trim both pieces so the edges are straight, butt them together without overlapping, and lay the tape centered over the seam with the adhesive side down. Press to fuse, following the directions on the package. Test on a scrap first so you know how your iron and batting react.
- Can I use it on polyester or wool batting?
- The tape is meant for joining batting, but heat is the variable. Polyester and high-loft battings can flatten or melt under a hot iron, so start on a low setting, press rather than slide, and test on scraps of the batting you are joining.
- Will the join show or feel stiff after quilting?
- The tape is sheer and lightweight, and it is easy to machine or hand quilt through. Because the edges are butted rather than overlapped, there is no double layer of batting to create a ridge under the quilt top.
- Is the joined batting washable?
- Yes. After fusing, the tape is machine washable, dryable and dry cleanable, and the bond is permanent.
