Description
Gypsy Quilter Scrap Tape is a wash-away foundation that stabilizes the grain line, which makes all your scraps usable and keeps pieced strips straight. The 2-1/2" width makes scrappy strips: stitch and flip scraps onto the tape, then trim to size.
Use the strips for sashing, binding or any project that calls for 2-1/2" strips; it also makes a cute ribbon for gift wrap. One roll is 25 yards long. Because Scrap Tape washes away with water, do not use steam or starch (or a starch alternative) while you build your blocks or strips. Wash the stabilizer away after the project is complete.

Compare and choose
- Which width of Scrap Tape do I need?
- Match the tape to what you are making: 2-1/2" for scrappy sashing and binding strips, 5" for wider strips and 5" squares, and 13" for crazy quilt blocks. All three are the same wash-away foundation. Scrap Tape 13" x 10 yd
- Why can't I use steam or starch with Scrap Tape?
- It is water soluble. Steam and spray starch add moisture, which softens or dissolves the foundation before the project is finished. Press with a dry iron and wash the tape away at the end.
- Does the foundation stay in the quilt?
- No. It holds the grain straight while you sew, then washes away when the finished project is washed, so the quilt keeps a soft hand.
- Scrap Tape vs paper foundation piecing?
- Paper foundations are torn out after sewing, which can loosen stitches and takes time. Scrap Tape stays in until the project is done and then washes out. For printed foundation patterns, a printable wash-away sheet such as Pellon Print-Stitch-Dissolve works the same way. Pellon 2301S Print-Stitch-Dissolve
- Can I use it for binding?
- Yes. Gypsy Quilter lists binding among its uses. Join the scrappy strips, fold and attach as usual; the tape washes out when the finished quilt is washed.
