Description
Hobbs Heirloom 100% Natural Cotton with Scrim is a traditional all-cotton batting for quilters who want the look and feel of cotton with extra strength. A thin scrim is needle-punched into the cotton, which stops the batting from stretching or distorting as you baste and quilt. This queen package is one pre-cut 90" x 108" batt; a finished top up to about 86" x 104" keeps a 2" margin on every side.
It quilts well by hand and by machine and gives a flat, low-loft finish that softens with every wash. Expect 3-5% shrinkage when the finished quilt is washed, which brings out the softly puckered look of a vintage quilt. It works for bed quilts, throws and patchwork in both traditional and modern styles.
This listing ships from our distributor partner. It is the same batt as our stocked Hobbs Heirloom 100% Cotton package, so check both if one is out of stock.

Compare and choose
- What does the scrim do?
- The scrim is a very thin stabilizing layer needled into the cotton. It holds the fibers together, so the batting does not stretch, thin out or pull apart while you baste and quilt, and it makes the batt stronger on a longarm frame.
- How far apart can I quilt it?
- Hobbs publishes a maximum of 4" between quilting lines for Heirloom Cotton with Scrim, the same as the rest of the Heirloom line. Closer quilting gives a flatter, more antique finish. If you want wider spacing in cotton, Warm & Natural can be quilted up to 10" apart. Warm & Natural packages
- Hobbs Heirloom Cotton vs Hobbs Heirloom 80/20: which one?
- Both are low loft and shrink 3-5%. The 100% cotton is a little denser and more traditional, with no polyester fiber in the batt itself. The 80/20 is softer, drapes more and resists bearding. Choose cotton for a vintage look, 80/20 for an everyday bed quilt. Hobbs Heirloom 80/20 queen
- Is this the same as your stocked Hobbs Heirloom Cotton package?
- Yes. Same Hobbs Heirloom 100% Natural Cotton with Scrim batt, listed separately because it ships from our distributor partner. The stocked package ships from us and also comes in craft and king sizes. Hobbs Heirloom 100% Cotton package
- Is it microwave-safe for bowl cozies?
- No. The scrim is polyester, which can melt or scorch. Use Pellon Wrap-N-Zap, with cotton fabric and cotton thread, for anything that goes in the microwave. Pellon Wrap-N-Zap
- Do I need to pre-wash it?
- No. Hobbs does not recommend pre-washing. Expect 3-5% shrinkage the first time the finished quilt is washed.
