Description
A full case of Insul-Shine in one-yard packages: 20 packages, each 45" x 1 yard. Insul-Shine is reflective thermal batting with a shiny metallized polyester surface pin-welded to a polyester batting. The metallic face reflects radiant heat or cold, wipes clean and is water resistant; the batting side adds soft insulation. It sews easily, and decorative stitching shows well against the metallic face if you leave it exposed, or cover it with fabric when you want the insulation without the look.
The case suits quilt shops, craft sellers, classrooms, home decor businesses and anyone making insulated grocery totes, soft lunch bags, bottle carriers, casserole carriers and soft coolers in quantity. It is also used in window treatments, vent and air-conditioner covers and draft-control projects, though it is not a replacement for code-required building insulation.
Insul-Shine is machine washable and dryable. It is not microwave safe, must not be ironed directly on the metallic surface, and is reflective insulation rather than a heat-proof or fire-resistant barrier. For continuous yardage, see the 45" x 10-yard and 22" x 30-yard bolts.

Compare and choose
- How much Insul-Shine is in a case?
- Twenty one-yard packages, each 45" x 36", for 20 yards of 45"-wide Insul-Shine. A lunch bag uses well under a yard and a casserole carrier about one yard, so one case covers a large production run or a full class.
- Case or bolt?
- The case gives you tidy one-yard units for kits, classes and shelf stock. The bolts give continuous yardage at a lower cost per yard: the 45" x 10-yard bolt for wide carriers and coolers, the 22" x 30-yard bolt for narrow bags and bottle carriers. Insul-Shine 45" x 10 yd bolt
- Insul-Shine vs Insul-Bright?
- Insul-Bright has polyester fibers needle-punched through a reflective metalized film, so the film is inside the batting and the product looks like a grey-flecked batting. Insul-Shine has a shiny metallized polyester surface pin-welded to one face of a polyester batting, so the reflective layer is exposed, wipes clean and is water resistant. Use Insul-Bright for mitts, pot holders and casserole covers; use Insul-Shine for lunch bags, soft coolers, bottle carriers and anywhere you want the metallic face showing or wipeable. Insul-Bright full case
- Can Insul-Shine be covered with fabric?
- Yes. When you want the insulation without a metallic interior, cover it with decorative or lining fabric. It still reflects, and the batting side sews like any light batting. Leave it exposed when you want a wipe-clean cooler or lunch bag interior.
- Is Insul-Shine microwave safe?
- No. Insul-Shine has a metallic reflective layer and is not microwave safe; never use it in a bowl cozy or anything that will be microwaved. For microwave projects use Pellon Wrap-N-Zap, a 100% cotton batting made for that purpose. Pellon Wrap-N-Zap 45" x 1 yd package
- Can I iron it?
- Do not iron directly on the metallic surface; it will damage the finish. Press from the fabric side, or cover the metallic face with a pressing cloth, and follow The Warm Company's care instructions. Finished projects are machine washable.
- Can I use Insul-Shine as house insulation?
- It works in sewn window treatments, vent covers, air-conditioner covers and draft stoppers, where a reflective, washable layer helps. It is not a substitute for building-code-required insulation and it is not fire-resistant, so keep it to soft-goods projects.
