Description

Katahdin Premium Summer is a lightweight 3 oz batting of 100% cotton, triple-carded and needle-punched, with no scrims or resins. The lighter weight makes it easy to hand quilt, and it is extremely stable: you can stitch up to 8" apart.

This king package measures 120" x 120", enough for king bed quilts in one piece, with no batting seam to hide. Summer weight is the one to pick for a cooler, lighter bed quilt or a quilt you plan to hand quilt; for more body, the same size comes in the 4 oz weight.

No pre-shrinking is required.

Compare and choose

Summer 3 oz or 4 oz Katahdin: which weight should I buy?
Summer (3 oz) is lighter and easier to hand quilt, and makes a cooler quilt. The 4 oz midweight adds body and warmth with the same 8" quilting distance. Both are 100% cotton with no scrim. Katahdin 4 oz 120" x 120"
Katahdin vs Warm & Natural: what is the difference?
Both are needle-punched cotton. Warm & Natural has a scrim and can be quilted up to 10" apart; Katahdin is 100% natural cotton with no scrim or resins and can be stitched up to 8" apart. Choose Katahdin when a pattern calls for pure cotton with nothing added. Warm & Natural packages
Do I need to pre-shrink Katahdin cotton?
No. Katahdin needs no pre-shrinking; use it straight from the package.
Is the king 120" x 120" batt big enough for my quilt?
Plan on batting at least 2" larger than your top on every side, and about 4" on every side if it is going on a longarm frame. This 120" x 120" batt covers finished tops up to about 116" x 116" for domestic quilting, or about 112" x 112" on a longarm.
Is Katahdin Summer good for hand quilting?
Yes. The lightweight 3 oz cotton has no scrim or resin to push the needle through, which is why it is sold for ease in hand quilting.
