Description
Katahdin Premium 4 oz is a midweight batting of 100% cotton, triple-carded and needle-punched, with no scrims or resins. It is extremely stable, so you can stitch up to 8" apart, and the 4 oz weight gives a quilt more body and warmth than the Summer 3 oz.
This package measures 120" x 120", enough for king bed quilts in one piece, with no batting seam to hide. It is a good all-round cotton for machine and longarm quilters who want a natural, scrim-free batt without having to quilt densely.
No pre-shrinking is required.

- 4 oz or Summer 3 oz Katahdin: which weight should I buy?
- The 4 oz midweight gives more body and warmth. Summer 3 oz is lighter, cooler and easier to hand quilt. Both are 100% cotton with no scrim and can be quilted up to 8" apart. Katahdin Summer 3 oz 120" x 120"
- Katahdin vs Warm & Natural: what is the difference?
- Both are needle-punched cotton. Warm & Natural has a scrim and can be quilted up to 10" apart; Katahdin is 100% natural cotton with no scrim or resins and can be stitched up to 8" apart. Choose Katahdin when a pattern calls for pure cotton with nothing added. Warm & Natural packages
- Do I need to pre-shrink Katahdin cotton?
- No. Katahdin needs no pre-shrinking; use it straight from the package.
- Katahdin 4 oz cotton vs Acadia 80/20 4 oz: which is better?
- They are the same weight and both quilt up to 8" apart. Katahdin is pure cotton with no scrim; Acadia blends in 20% polyester and adds a scrim for strength. Go with Katahdin for a natural-fiber quilt, Acadia for a tougher everyday one. Acadia 80/20 120" x 120"
- Is the king 120" x 120" batt big enough for my quilt?
- Plan on batting at least 2" larger than your top on every side, and about 4" on every side if it is going on a longarm frame. This 120" x 120" batt covers finished tops up to about 116" x 116" for domestic quilting, or about 112" x 112" on a longarm.
