Description
Kimberbell Light Tear-Away is a lightweight non-woven tear-away stabilizer on a 20" x 10 yard roll. Use it on stable, non-stretch fabrics for low stitch count designs: outline work, light fills and small motifs on quilting cotton and other lightweight wovens. It tears neatly and easily from the stitched area, so no permanent backing is left behind.
It is also a good choice for piecing projects, where a light backing keeps blocks flat while you stitch and then tears away cleanly. For denser designs, move up to Kimberbell Medium Tear-Away or Heavy Tear-Away.
The 20" width covers large hoops and multi-hooping projects, and it cuts two medium hoopings side by side. For the other width see the 12" roll.

Cuts are the hoop size plus about 2" each way, laid along the 10-yard length at the 20" width and turned where that fits more. Counts are approximate and assume no waste.

- Light, medium or heavy: which weight should I buy?
- Match the weight to the stitch count and the fabric. Light is for lightweight fabrics and low stitch count designs. Medium handles medium to high stitch counts on most wovens. Heavy is for stitch-heavy designs, soft fabrics that need a stiff backing, and designs with large open areas.
- Tear-away vs cut-away vs wash-away: which Kimberbell stabilizer do I need?
- Tear-away is for stable, non-stretch fabrics where no permanent backing is needed: quilting cotton, denim, canvas, towels. Cut-away stays behind the design and is for knits, stretchy fabrics and dense designs that need permanent support. Wash-away dissolves in water and is for freestanding lace, cutwork and sheer fabrics where nothing can remain.
- 12" or 20" roll: which width?
- Buy the width that fits your largest hoop plus about an inch each side. The 12" roll covers hoops up to about 6" x 10". The 20" roll covers large hoops and lets you cut two smaller hoopings side by side. Both are 10 yards long. 12" x 10 yd roll
- How do I remove tear-away without distorting the stitches?
- Hold the stitches with your thumb and tear toward the design in small pieces. Tear outer edges first, then open areas. Tweezers help with small bits under satin stitches.
