Description

Sulky Tear-Easy is a lightweight, soft, temporary tear-away stabilizer. It gives good stability with effortless removal that does not pull, tear or distort stitches. Professional embroiderers use one, two or three layers to stabilize almost any fabric, and quilters use it for foundation piecing and as a removable design template. Tear away one layer at a time.

Choose it for any project where you do not want to wet or heat the work to remove the stabilizer. The 12" width covers hoops up to about 8" x 10" and is the better buy if you embroider in mid-size hoops or use it for foundation piecing blocks. All Sulky stabilizers are acid and lead free.

Compare and choose

How many layers of Tear-Easy should I use?
Sulky recommends one, two or three layers depending on the fabric and design. One layer handles light designs on stable wovens; add a second or third for denser stitching. Tear away one layer at a time so the stitches are not stressed.
Tear-Easy vs Totally Stable: what is the difference?
Both are Sulky tear-aways. Tear-Easy is a plain sew-in tear-away that is hooped or pinned. Totally Stable is iron-on: it fuses temporarily to the back of the fabric, which makes it the better choice for knits and stretchy fabrics that shift when hooped. Totally Stable 12" x 12 yd
Can I use Tear-Easy for foundation paper piecing?
Yes. Quilters use it as a foundation and as a removable design template. Stitch through it with a short stitch length, then tear it away after the block is sewn.
Tear-Easy vs Stiffy: which do I need?
Tear-Easy is lightweight and soft, built for layering and easy removal. Sulky Stiffy is a firmer, denser tear-away for satin stitching, monograms and appliqué where a single crisp layer prevents tunneling. Sulky Stiffy 8" x 11 yd
Tear-away, cut-away or wash-away: which stabilizer do I need?
Tear-away is for stable woven fabrics where no backing should stay behind: it supports the stitching, then tears off. Cut-away stays in the project permanently and is the right choice for knits, sweatshirts and anything that stretches, because the stitches need support through every wash. Wash-away dissolves in water and is for freestanding lace, sheers and projects where no trace of stabilizer can remain. See a cut-away option
