Description
Light Weight White is a non-woven tear-away embroidery stabilizer on a 15" x 10 yard roll. It is the backing for low stitch count designs on lightweight woven fabrics: outline work, small monograms, redwork and light fills, where a heavy backing would be more stabilizer than the design needs and harder to tear out.
It removes very easily, which is why it is also a good choice for paper piecing quilt blocks: stitch through it like foundation paper and tear it away when the block is done. For denser designs, step up to Medium Weight White or Heavy Weight White, or use two layers of this one.
The 15" width covers hoops up to about 8" x 12" with margin, and you can cut two 4" x 4" pieces side by side.

Cuts are the hoop size plus about 2" each way, laid along the 10-yard length at the 15" width and turned where that fits more. Counts are approximate and assume no waste.

- Light, medium or heavy tear-away: which weight do I need?
- Light Weight White is for low stitch count designs on lightweight fabrics. Medium Weight White is for medium to high stitch counts and dark wovens. Heavy Weight White is for dense, stitch-intensive designs and designs with large open centers. If a light design puckers, add a second layer rather than switching products. - Can I use it for foundation paper piecing?
- Yes. It stitches like foundation paper and tears away very easily, so it is a good choice for paper piecing quilt blocks. Use a short stitch length so it perforates cleanly, and hold the seam while you tear.
- Tear-away vs cut-away: which do I use?
- Tear-away is for stable woven fabrics where nothing permanent needs to stay behind the stitches. Cut-away stays in the project and is for knits and stretchy fabrics. - How do I remove it without pulling the stitches?
- Support the stitches with one hand and tear toward the design in small pieces. Lightweight tear-away comes away very easily, so there is little pull on the stitching. Pick out small bits under satin stitches with tweezers.
