Description
Heavy Weight White is a stiff, crisp non-woven tear-away embroidery stabilizer on a 15" x 10 yard roll. It is the backing for stitch-intensive designs on woven fabrics: dense fills, satin borders and designs with large open areas in the center, where a lighter tear-away would let the fabric pucker or the outline drift out of register.
Because it is firm, it also gives extra support when you embroider softer wovens. Once the design is stitched, it tears away from the back so nothing permanent stays in the project. It is not meant for knits or stretchy fabrics; anything that stretches needs a cut-away that stays in to support the stitches.
The 15" width covers hoops up to about 8" x 12" with margin, and you can still cut two 4" x 4" pieces side by side. If you only stitch in 4" x 4" and 5" x 7" hoops, the 10" roll wastes less.

Compare and choose
- Heavy, medium or light tear-away: which weight do I need?
- Match the weight to the stitch count. Light Weight White is for low stitch count designs on lightweight fabrics. Medium Weight White handles medium to high stitch counts. Heavy Weight White is for the densest designs and for designs with large open centers that need the fabric held flat. Medium Weight White 15" x 10 yd
- Tear-away vs cut-away: which do I use?
- Tear-away is for stable woven fabrics such as quilting cotton, denim, canvas and towels, where the fabric itself can carry the stitches after the backing is removed. Cut-away stays in the project and is for knits, sweatshirts and anything that stretches, because without permanent support the stitches distort over time. If the fabric stretches, do not use this roll. Kimberbell Medium Cut-Away 12" x 10 yd
- How do I remove a heavy tear-away cleanly?
- Hold the stitches with your thumb and tear toward the design, not away from it, a little at a time. Tear the outer edges first, then work inside open areas. Small bits caught under satin stitches can be picked out with tweezers. Tearing toward the stitches keeps them from being pulled or distorted.
- 10" or 15" roll: which width should I buy?
- Buy the width that fits your largest hoop plus about an inch on each side. The 10" roll suits 4" x 4" and 5" x 7" hoops. The 15" roll covers up to about an 8" x 12" hoop and lets you cut two small pieces side by side. Both rolls are 10 yards long. 10" x 10 yd roll
- Is Heavy Weight White good for towels?
- Yes, as a backing for woven towels when the design has a medium to high stitch count, since terry is a woven and no permanent backing is needed. Add a water-soluble or heat-away topping on the front so the stitches do not sink into the loops. Kimberbell Iron-Away Topping
- What are the alternatives to this heavy tear-away?
- For a similar heavy tear-away from another line we carry Kimberbell Heavy Tear-Away on a 20" roll and a 12" Heavy Weight Tear-Away. Sulky Stiffy is a firm, denser tear-away on an 8" roll that professionals layer for heavy fabrics. Kimberbell Heavy Tear-Away 20" x 10 yd
