Description

Pellon Natural Cotton with Scrim is the everyday low-loft cotton batting in our Pellon line, and the 90" x 40 yard roll is its production format: 1,440" of 90"-wide batting, around thirteen queen quilts or twenty twins, at a lower cost per yard than the packages. It is the roll for longarm quilters and anyone who quilts for customers or a guild.

The batt is 93% cotton needle-punched through a 7% polypropylene scrim. The scrim is the point: it keeps the thin cotton from stretching or tearing on a frame and lets you quilt up to 10" apart, where a scrimless cotton needs lines every 3" to 4". Loft is 1/16" for a flat, traditional look, shrinkage is 3-5% in the first wash for a soft crinkle, and it washes by hand or machine and dry cleans. The natural color is an unbleached cream; under white fabric use the white version.

Rolls and bolts ship only to the 48 contiguous states.

Compare and choose

How many quilts does a 40 yard roll make?
The roll is 90" x 1,440". Cutting along the length you get about 13 queen cuts (90" x 108"), 15 full cuts, 20 twin cuts with the 90" side across the roll, or 24 throws. Kings need 120" of width and do not fit; use the 120" x 120" king package for those. Pellon Natural Cotton king package
Pellon 90" x 40 yard roll vs Warm & Natural 90" x 40 yard bolt?
Same width, same length, same job: needle-punched cotton over a scrim, low loft, 3-5% shrinkage, quilting up to 10" apart. Warm & Natural is slightly denser and firmer; Pellon is a touch softer. Longarmers who already use one rarely notice a difference switching to the other. Warm & Natural 90" x 40 yard bolt
Pellon cotton roll vs Hobbs Heirloom 100% Cotton with Scrim 96" roll?
Hobbs is 96" wide, 30 yards, loftier at about 1/8" with a 4" stitch allowance; it drapes softer and shows more crinkle. Pellon is 90" wide, 40 yards, 1/16" loft and quilts to 10" apart, so it suits open pantographs. If your customers bring wide queens, the 6" extra on the Hobbs roll matters. Hobbs Heirloom 100% Cotton with Scrim 96" roll
Is 90" wide enough for queen quilts?
For standard queens, yes: tops up to about 86" across fit with the 108" running along the roll. Wide queens and kings need a 120" batting; Pellon sells that only as the 120" x 120" king package, not on a roll.
Natural or white roll?
Natural for most work. If you quilt a lot of white and pastel tops, the unbleached cotton can shadow through; the white roll is the same batting bleached. Pellon White Cotton with Scrim 90" x 40 yard roll
