Description
Quilters Dream Deluxe is the heavier of the two Dream Cotton lofts we stock in packages: a weighty 100% natural cotton batting that adds warmth and substance to a quilt and gives your quilting design extra emphasis. It is built for machine quilting, and it is the loft to pick for weighty bed quilts, wall hangings, quilted bags and craft projects where you want the stitching to show. This package is pre-cut in eight sizes from Craft to King, so you buy one batt sized for one project.
Dream Cotton is mechanically cleaned without chemicals, then carded, crosslapped and needle-punched. There is no scrim, resin or glue in it, which is why it keeps a soft drape and why hand and machine needles glide through it. You can quilt as closely as you like or up to 8" apart, and the construction resists shifting and lumping. Shrinkage is minimal, so do not pre-wash; machine wash and dry the finished quilt. Cotton Incorporated certifies it as 100% cotton (the black seal), and it carries a thermal value of R=3.8: warm in winter, yet it wicks moisture in summer.
Deluxe is only made in natural cotton. If you want a lighter, more traditional cotton quilt from the same line, use the Select Natural Cotton package (mid loft) or the Request Natural Cotton package (thinnest loft); if you want even more loft, Quilters Dream Supreme is the heaviest cotton in the line.

- Deluxe vs Select: how much heavier is it?
- Deluxe is the next step up from Select, the mid loft. It is noticeably weightier in the hand, warmer, and the extra thickness makes quilting lines stand out more. Select is the better choice for a lighter everyday quilt or for hand quilting; Deluxe is the choice for a substantial machine-quilted bed quilt or a wall hanging that needs body. - Request, Select, Deluxe or Supreme: which Dream Cotton loft do I need?
- They are the same 100% cotton at four thicknesses. Request is the thinnest, developed for hand quilters and flat, drapey quilts. Select is the mid loft and the most popular all-rounder. Deluxe is heavier, adding warmth, weight and stitch definition for machine-quilted projects. Supreme is the heaviest. All four quilt up to 8" apart and are needle-punched with no scrim.
- Is Deluxe cotton good for hand quilting?
- It can be hand quilted, since there is no scrim or resin to resist the needle, but it is a heavier batting than most hand quilters want. Quilters Dream built it with machine quilting in mind. For hand work, use Request or Select from the same line. Request Natural Cotton package
- Quilters Dream Deluxe vs Warm & Plush: which heavy cotton?
- Both are heavier 100% cotton battings. Warm & Plush is a lofty, lightly needle-punched cotton; Dream Cotton Deluxe is densely needle-punched with no scrim, resin or glue and is rated for 8" quilting. Deluxe gives more weight and stitch definition; Warm & Plush gives a softer, fluffier cotton loft. Warm & Plush batting
- Do I need to pre-wash Dream Cotton?
- No. Pre-washing is not recommended. The cotton is exceptionally free of seed remnants and shrinkage is minimal, so expect a soft finish rather than the heavy crinkle of a high-shrink cotton. Machine wash and dry the finished quilt.
- Can I use this batting for microwave bowl cozies and hot pads?
- Yes, with care. Dream Cotton is 100% cotton with no scrim, resin or polyester, so it is suitable for microwave projects when you also use 100% cotton fabric and cotton thread.
