Description
Quilters Dream Green is a soft, cozy polyester batting made 100% from recycled plastic bottles: each pound keeps about ten bottles out of a landfill. It is Select loft, the versatile mid weight, and our customers use it the way they use any good polyester batting, for everyday bed quilts, charity quilts and kids' quilts that get washed often. This package is pre-cut in eight sizes from Craft to King.
The bottles are cut into chips, washed, melted and extruded into fine polyester fibers that Quilters Dream says are indistinguishable from virgin polyester. The batting is carded, crosslapped and needle-punched for uniformity, strength and resilience, with no scrim or resin, yet you can stitch up to 12" apart. To avoid extra processing the fibers keep the soft natural green tint of the bottles; the batting is colorfast and does not show through quilt fabric. Needles glide through it, it is wrinkle-resistant, and the finished quilt machine washes and dries with little to no shrinkage.
Dream Green is made only in the Select loft. The same batting is on 60", 93" and 120" rolls for longarm studios.

- Dream Green vs Dream Select Poly: what is the difference?
- Fiber source and color. Both are Select-loft, needle-punched polyester with no scrim, 12" quilting distance and little to no shrinkage. Dream Green is spun from recycled bottles and keeps a faint green tint; Select Poly is virgin microfiber in ultra-bright white. Under white fabric use Select Poly; under anything else, Green performs the same and recycles plastic. Select Poly package
- Will the green tint show through my quilt?
- Not through normal quilting cottons. The tint is pale and the batting is colorfast. Under sheer, white or very pale fabric we recommend a white batting instead.
- Quilters Dream Green vs Hobbs Poly-Down: which polyester?
- Poly-Down is a bonded polyester with a springy, down-like loft and a 4" quilting distance. Dream Green is needle-punched, denser and more drapey, with a 12" quilting distance and recycled content. - Can I hand quilt Dream Green?
- Yes. There is no scrim or resin to resist the needle, and the Select loft is the one Quilters Dream recommends for both hand and machine quilting.
- Do I need to pre-wash it?
- No. Dream Green has little to no shrinkage, so pre-washing gains nothing. Machine wash and dry the finished quilt.
- Can I use Dream Green for microwave bowl cozies?
- No. It is polyester and will melt or scorch in a microwave. Use 100% cotton batting with no scrim or Pellon Wrap-N-Zap, with cotton fabric and cotton thread. Pellon Wrap-N-Zap
