Description
Quilters Dream Select Black Poly on the roll: a true deep black, mid-loft microfiber polyester for longarm studios that quilt dark tops. Under black, navy, brown or burgundy fabric a white batting can beard through and show as pale fuzz; black batting disappears and makes dark fabric look richer. Select is the most popular Dream Poly loft, suited to hand and machine quilting. Each roll is 120" wide by 25 yards. The 120" width is the king roll: it covers king tops in one piece and cuts queen, full and twin batts sideways with little waste. The black Select loft comes 25 yards to the roll, around seven king quilts.
Dream Poly is not an ordinary polyester. It is made from very fine denier microfibers, over 60 million fibers per pound against about 5 million in a typical poly batt, which is what gives it a soft hand, real drape and breathability. The fibers are blended, carded, crosslapped and needle-punched with no scrim, resin or glue, so needles glide through it. It resists bunching and shifting, can be quilted up to 12" apart, does not shrink, and resists holding a crease, which makes it a good choice for quilts that get folded, packed and shipped. Machine wash and dry the finished quilt, or dry clean.

- Do I need the 120" roll for a king quilt?
- Yes. A king top runs about 120" x 120", and the 93" roll is not wide enough to cover it in one piece. The 120" roll also cuts queen, full and twin batts sideways with less waste, so many studios run only this width.
- Roll or pre-cut package: which format should I buy?

- Dream Black Poly is 100% polyester: no shrinkage, 12" quilting distance, very soft drape, and black all the way through. Hobbs Black 80/20 is a cotton-poly blend on a 108" roll: a traditional cotton hand, 3-5% shrinkage for the crinkled look, and 4" quilting distance. - Will Dream Poly shrink or crinkle when washed?
- No. Dream Poly has zero shrinkage, so the quilt keeps the flat, smooth look it had on the frame. If you want the antique crinkle, pair it with unwashed cotton fabric so the fabric shrinks instead, or choose a cotton batting. Do not pre-wash the batting.
- Can I use polyester batting for microwave bowl cozies or hot pads?
- No. Polyester melts and can scorch in a microwave. Use 100% cotton batting with no scrim, such as Quilters Dream Cotton, or Pellon Wrap-N-Zap, with cotton fabric and cotton thread. Pellon Wrap-N-Zap
