Description
The Gypsy Quilter Embroidery Batting is cotton batting with a scrim, built to carry embroidery stitches without additional stabilizer: hoop the batting and stitch. It supports up to 8,000 stitches per layer, and the scrim adds strength so it will not shift in the hoop. This roll is 10" wide by 10 yards.
It also works for small machine-quilting projects such as placemats, table runners and quilt-as-you-go blocks, with quilt lines up to 8" apart. Because it contains a scrim, it is not microwave safe; for bowl cozies use The Gypsy Quilter Cotton Batting, which has no scrim.

Each piece is the hoop size plus 1" on every side so it can be clamped in the hoop. Pieces are cut across the width and along the length; counts are approximate and assume no waste.
Compare and choose
- Do I need stabilizer with this batting?
- For designs up to about 8,000 stitches per layer, no. The scrim and needle-punched cotton carry the stitches, so you can hoop the batting by itself. For denser designs, add a stabilizer or a second layer.
- Is it microwave safe?
- No. It contains a scrim, so it is not microwave safe. For microwave bowl cozies use The Gypsy Quilter Cotton Batting, which is 100% cotton with no scrim, with cotton fabric and thread. Gypsy Quilter Cotton Batting 10"
- Which width do I need for my hoop?
- Cut each piece about 1" larger than the hoop on every side. Every width, even the 10" roll, is wide enough for hoops up to 8" x 12" (a 10" x 14" piece); wider rolls fit more small pieces side by side, so there is less waste. See the grid below for counts per roll. Gypsy Quilter Embroidery Batting 18"
- Gypsy Quilter Embroidery Batting vs RNK Embroidery Batting?
- Both are made to carry in-the-hoop embroidery without extra stabilizer. RNK is a cotton/poly blend sold 60" wide in 1-, 3- and 15-yard cuts and 122" wide; The Gypsy Quilter is cotton on narrow 10-yard rolls so you cut fewer odd scraps. RNK Embroidery Batting 60" x 3 yd
- Can I use it for regular machine quilting?
- Yes, for small projects. Placemats, table runners and quilt-as-you-go blocks quilt well, with lines up to 8" apart.
