Description
Hobbs Tuscany Supreme is Hobbs' thickest and most plush 100% cotton batting. It is clean, unbleached, long-staple virgin cotton with the Cotton Incorporated Seal, no scrim and no binders, lightly needle-punched to resist bunching and shifting. It quilts especially easily by machine and gives a soft hand with an even appearance.
This king package measures 120" x 120", sized for king bed quilts in one piece, with no batting seam to hide. Like other unbleached cotton, it is meant for medium and dark fabrics; under white or very light fabrics it can slightly darken the colors.
Quilt it 3-4" apart. Expect 4-6% shrinkage after washing, which gives a traditional, antique puckered quilt; the closer and more densely you stitch, the less it shrinks. Pre-washing is not recommended, and we suggest making a sample first to see how it needles and launders.

Compare and choose
- Tuscany Supreme vs regular Tuscany Unbleached: what is the difference?
- Both are unbleached, scrim-free 100% cotton from Hobbs. Supreme is the thicker, plusher batt: quilt it 3-4" apart and expect 4-6% shrinkage. Regular Tuscany is flatter, can be quilted up to 4" apart and shrinks 3-5%. Choose Supreme for a cuddly bed quilt, regular Tuscany for a traditional low-loft finish or hand quilting. - Tuscany Supreme vs Quilters Dream Supreme cotton: how do they compare?
- Both are heavy, scrim-free natural cotton battings aimed at quilters who want a thicker cotton quilt. Quilters Dream cotton can be quilted up to 8" apart, while Tuscany Supreme should be quilted 3-4" apart and shrinks more (4-6%) for a crinklier finish. If you plan wide, open quilting, Quilters Dream is the more forgiving choice. Quilters Dream Supreme packages
- Is the king 120" x 120" batt big enough for my quilt?
- Plan on batting at least 2" larger than your top on every side, and about 4" on every side if it is going on a longarm frame. This 120" x 120" batt covers finished tops up to about 116" x 116" for domestic quilting, or about 112" x 112" on a longarm.
- How much will Tuscany Supreme shrink?
- Plan on 4-6% after the first wash. Denser quilting reduces shrinkage, so if you want less puckering, stitch closer together. Do not pre-wash the batting; the shrinkage is what gives the antique look.
- Can I use Supreme under a white quilt?
- It is not the best choice. Unbleached cotton can slightly darken white or very light fabrics. For light tops use Hobbs Tuscany Bleached Cotton, which is designed not to shadow through. Tuscany Bleached king
