Description
Bliss 80/20 is Therm O Web's cotton-poly blend batting, and this is the twin pre-cut: one 72" x 96" piece, sized for a twin bed quilt or an oversized throw. The 96" length runs a little longer than the usual 90" twin batt, which gives you extra margin at the foot of the bed or room for a long modern throw. For a full or a wide twin top, step up to the Full 90" x 96".
The blend is 80% USA-grown long-staple cotton with 20% polyester, 4 oz, and made without scrim or resin. The polyester adds a touch of loft and structure over pure cotton, so stitch definition reads well and the batting resists bearding and fiber separation. It handles easily, which is why we point beginners to it, and it can be quilted by hand or machine with stitching up to 8" apart. Shrinkage is under 5%. Made in the USA.
Therm O Web recommends pre-washing by hand. If you skip it, wash the finished quilt cold on the delicate cycle and tumble dry low; the batting relaxes into a soft, lightly crinkled bed quilt.

- Both are 80% cotton, 20% polyester, and both are our go-to blends for bed quilts. Hobbs Heirloom is needle-punched and lightly resin-bonded, about 1/8" loft, and should be quilted within 4". Bliss 80/20 is a 4 oz batting with no scrim or resin, a little more loft, and Therm O Web rates it for stitching up to 8" apart. - Same maker, same 4 oz weight, same no-scrim construction and the same 8" quilting distance. The 100% cotton version is flatter and gives the classic crinkled, antique look after washing. - Is 72" x 96" big enough for my twin quilt?
- Plan on batting at least 4" larger than the quilt top on every side so you have something to hold while quilting. A 72" x 96" batt comfortably covers tops up to about 64" x 88", which is the typical twin or a big throw. For a twin XL with a generous drop, or any top wider than 68", use the Full 90" x 96" instead. Bliss 80/20 Full 90" x 96"
- Do I need to pre-wash Bliss 80/20?
- Therm O Web recommends pre-washing by hand. Shrinkage is under 5% either way, so many of our customers skip it and let the first cold, delicate wash give the quilt a gentle crinkle. If you want the flattest possible finish, pre-wash gently by hand and dry flat or on low.
- How far apart can I quilt it?
- Up to 8" apart by hand or machine. That is twice the spacing Hobbs recommends for its 80/20, so Bliss suits simple grids, wide-spaced pantographs and minimal modern quilting without the batting shifting.
- Can I use this for hot pads or bowl cozies?
- No. The 20% polyester can melt or scorch in the microwave. For anything that goes in the microwave use a 100% cotton batting with no scrim, such as Bliss Micro Magic, with 100% cotton fabric and thread. Bliss Micro Magic 100% Cotton
