Description

Bliss 80/20 Cotton Poly blends 80% USA-grown long-staple cotton with 20% soft polyester and leaves out the scrim. The polyester adds a little loft and resilience, so quilting lines stand up more than they do on an all-cotton batt, and the blend resists bearding and fiber separation. It is an easy batting for beginners and a forgiving one for machine quilters. This throw plus package is a single 60" x 72" batt, sized for rectangular lap and sofa throws up to about 56" x 68", the size most people actually want on the couch.

At 4 oz per square yard it is still a lightweight, breathable layer, just with more stitch definition than the cotton version. Quilt by hand or machine as close as you like or up to 8" apart. Therm O Web recommends pre-washing by hand; if you skip that, expect under 5% shrinkage the first time the finished quilt is washed. Wash cold on a delicate cycle and tumble dry low. Made in the USA.

Use the crib 45" x 60" for a smaller project, or the twin 72" x 96" for a larger top. This listing ships from our distributor partner; the same batt is also sold here under the Therm O Web listing, so check both if one is out of stock.

Is Throw Plus the right size for a sofa throw?
Throw Plus is 60" x 72", so it covers a rectangular top up to about 56" x 68", which is the shape most sofa throws end up. For a twin bed you need the 72" x 96" twin; for a square lap quilt, the 60" x 60" throw is listed under Therm O Web. Bliss 80/20 Cotton Poly twin 72" x 96"
Bliss 80/20 vs Hobbs Heirloom 80/20: which one?
They are close cousins. Hobbs Heirloom 80/20 is lightly resin-bonded, about 1/8" loft, and should be quilted within 4". Bliss 80/20 has no scrim or resin, a touch more loft, and can be stitched up to 8" apart. Hobbs is the longarm standard we stock in depth; Bliss suits quilters who want wider stitch spacing or a slightly puffier line. Hobbs Heirloom 80/20 package
Bliss 80/20 vs Bliss 100% Cotton: what changes?
The 20% polyester gives the 80/20 more loft and more stitch definition, better bearding resistance, and a little more resilience after washing. The 100% cotton is flatter, cooler and the more traditional choice, and it is the one to use if you ever want the batting to be microwave-safe. Both quilt up to 8" apart and shrink under 5%. Do I need to pre-wash Bliss batting?
Therm O Web recommends pre-washing by hand: soak it in a tub of cool water, squeeze gently, and let it dry flat. Most of our customers skip it and let the finished quilt shrink under 5% in the first wash, which gives a soft, lightly crinkled finish. Either way, wash the finished quilt cold on delicate and tumble dry low.
How far apart can I quilt it?
Up to 8" apart by hand or machine, and as close as you like. That is wider than Hobbs 80/20 (4") and gives a lot of freedom for simple wavy lines or widely spaced blocks on a big quilt.
Is Bliss 80/20 safe for microwave bowl cozies?
No. The 20% polyester can melt or scorch in a microwave. For bowl cozies and hot pads that go in the microwave use a 100% cotton batting with no scrim, such as Bliss 100% Cotton, with cotton fabric and cotton thread, or Pellon Wrap-N-Zap. Pellon Wrap-N-Zap microwaveable batting
Why do you list this batt twice?
This listing ships from our distributor partner, and the other is the same Therm O Web batt sold from a different source. The product is identical. If one shows out of stock, order the other. Bliss 80/20 Cotton Poly throw plus, Therm O Web listing
