Description
Callie Del Batting Tape is a 2" wide, lightweight fusible tape for joining two or more pieces of batting into one, so larger quilts can use leftovers or an extra panel without a lumpy hand-whipped seam. It will not gum up your machine or add bulk. Hand quilters find it soft enough that they do not notice it when needling through. It works with all batting types.
It also stabilizes seams, bias edges and straight hems, and reinforces bag edges and tote handles. It is 100% polyester, white, and the 30-yard roll joins a lot of batting.
To use it, preheat your iron to medium or wool with no steam. Overlap scrap edges by a few inches and cut a wavy line through both, discard the scraps and butt the edges together, keeping the cut edge at least 1/2" from the tape edges. Place the rough (glue) side against the batting, cover with a light pressing cloth or Teflon sheet, and press and hold for 8 to 10 seconds. Lift and move the iron, overlapping slightly, until the whole seam is bonded. Let it cool, test the bond, and press again if needed. Always test on a scrap first, and protect your work surface.

Compare and choose
- Which side of the batting tape is fusible?
- The rough side is the glue side. Place it against the batting, cover with a pressing cloth or Teflon sheet, and press without steam on a medium or wool setting for 8 to 10 seconds per spot.
- Batting tape vs whip-stitching the batting by hand?
- Hand whip-stitching works but is slow and can leave a ridge. A 2" fusible tape bonds the seam flat in a few minutes, does not add bulk, and quilts through without your noticing it. For a show quilt, some quilters still prefer a hand-stitched join; for everyday quilts, tape is the faster route.
- Callie Del 2" tape vs Heat Press Batting Together: which should I buy?
- Both are iron-on tapes for joining batting. Callie Del is 2" wide, which gives a little more margin over a wavy cut. Heat Press Batting Together comes in narrower widths and in longer rolls for frequent use. Choose by how much margin you like over the seam and how often you join batting. - Does it work with wool, cotton and polyester batting?
- Yes, it is made to work with all batting types. Keep to a medium or wool setting with no steam, and test on a scrap of your batting first, especially with polyester, which is heat-sensitive.
- Will the tape survive washing?
- Yes. It is 100% polyester and the care is machine wash warm and tumble dry low, and it is dry cleanable. Once the quilt is quilted, the stitching also holds the joined batting.
- Can I use it for things other than batting?
- Yes. It stabilizes seams, bias edges and straight hems, and reinforces bag edges and tote handles.
