Description
Hobbs Heirloom 80/20 is the cotton-rich blend our customers reach for when they want a quilt that feels like cotton but holds up like a blend. This full package is one pre-cut 81" x 96" batt, sized for full and double bed quilts, and oversized throws. A finished top up to about 77" x 92" leaves a 2" margin on every side; if the quilt goes on a longarm frame, ask your quilter how much extra they need.
It is 80% premium unbleached cotton and 20% polyester, lightly needle-punched and lightly resin-bonded, with no scrim. Loft is about 1/8": enough for quilting lines to show, without the weight of an all-cotton batt. Quilt by hand or machine with lines no more than 4" apart. Expect 3-5% shrinkage when the finished quilt is washed, which gives the soft, lightly crinkled look most quilters want.

- It suits a finished top up to about 77" x 92", which keeps a 2" margin on every side for shifting and squaring up. If your top is larger, or your longarm quilter wants more overhang, step up to the queen 90" x 108". Hobbs Heirloom 80/20 queen 90" x 108"
- Hobbs 80/20 vs Warm & Natural: which should I buy?
- Warm & Natural is 100% needle-punched cotton with a scrim: firmer, flatter, and it can be quilted up to 10" apart. Hobbs Heirloom 80/20 adds 20% polyester for a softer hand, more drape and a little more loft, and should be quilted within 4". Choose Hobbs for a soft bed quilt; choose Warm & Natural for maximum flatness and wide stitch spacing. Warm & Natural packages
- Natural, bleached or black: which do I need?
- Natural (this batt) works under most medium and dark fabrics. Under white or pastel tops, unbleached cotton can shadow through, so use the bleached 80/20. Under black and navy tops, the black 80/20 keeps light fibers from showing. Hobbs Heirloom 80/20 Bleached queen
- Do I need to pre-wash it?
- No. Hobbs does not recommend pre-washing. Expect 3-5% shrinkage the first time the finished quilt is washed, which gives a soft, gently crinkled texture.
- Is there a fusible version so I can skip pin basting?
- Yes. Hobbs Heirloom 80/20 Fusible is the same blend with fusible on both sides, so you press the top and backing to it instead of pinning or spraying. We stock it in packages and on a 96" roll. Hobbs Heirloom 80/20 Fusible package
