Description
Hobbs 6oz Polyester is a high-loft batting for projects where you want warmth, body and a soft, puffy finish: comforters, tied quilts and trapunto. The 96" x 30 yard roll is 100% polyester, so it does not shrink and the finished piece keeps its size and shape.
Important: this batting ships tightly compressed. Open the bag and let it relax for one to two weeks before use so it reaches its full 1/4" loft.

Compare and choose
- 6oz vs 9oz vs 16oz: which polyester do I need?
- 6oz is about 1/4" loft and still machine quilts easily. 9oz is about 1/2" for puffier comforters. 16oz is about 1" and is for tied comforters and trapunto. Heavier is warmer and harder to feed through a domestic machine. Hobbs 9oz polyester 96" roll
- Polyester vs Polydown?
- Both are polyester. Polydown uses a finer denier fiber for a softer hand and better drape and comes in 108" and 120"; the 6oz is a standard poly at a lower price in 96". Hobbs Polydown 108" roll
- Why does the roll look thin when it arrives?
- Hobbs polyester is vacuum-compressed for shipping. Unbag it and let it rest for one to two weeks and it will recover its full loft.
- Can I machine quilt high-loft polyester?
- Yes, on a longarm or a domestic machine with a walking foot, quilting 4-6" apart. Very high lofts (12oz and 16oz) are usually tied or quilted on a frame rather than fed through a domestic machine.
- 96" vs 108" vs 120": which width for my quilt?
- Pick a batting at least 4" wider than the shorter side of your quilt top. A queen top (about 90" x 108") fits a 96" roll with the 108" running along the roll. A king top (108" to 120" wide) does not fit a 96" roll in one piece; use a 120" roll. 120" roll
- Do you ship batting rolls to Alaska or Hawaii?
- No. Rolls and boards ship only to the 48 contiguous states; orders from Alaska, Hawaii or outside the US are cancelled and refunded. Pre-cut packages ship to all locations. Shop packaged batting
- Do I need to pre-wash this batting?
- No. Polyester does not shrink, so the finished quilt keeps its size and shape. Pre-washing is not recommended for any Hobbs batting.
