Description
Pellon 988 Sew-In Fleece on the 45" x 10 yard bolt is the by-the-yard format of the non-fusible fleece. It adds full, lofty body to fabric for padded or quilted apparel, quilted jackets, pouches, bag linings and craft projects, and because it is sewn in rather than ironed on it suits heat-sensitive fabrics and makers who prefer to quilt the layers. Ten yards is 360" of 45" wide fleece, about ten one-yard cuts.
It is 100% polyester. The same fleece in iron-on form is 987F Fusible Fleece on a matching 45" x 10 yard bolt; for a single project the 22" x 36" package is the same product.

Compare and choose
- 988 sew-in bolt or 987F fusible bolt?
- 987F fuses to the fabric so the layers never shift and there is no basting; most bag patterns call for it. 988 is sewn in: no iron needed, no risk of bubbling on heat-sensitive fabrics, and the fabric keeps its movement, which quilted-jacket makers like. If every project you make is quilted all over, either works; if not, 987F is easier. Pellon 987F Fusible Fleece 45" x 10 yd
- Pellon 988 vs Warm Fleece sew-in bolt?
- Both are sew-in polyester fleeces by the bolt at 45" wide. Warm Fleece is a 20-yard bolt; Pellon 988 is 10 yards. They feel and sew alike, so buy by length and price. Warm Fleece Sew-In 45" x 20 yd
- How many projects does a 10 yard bolt cover?
- A quilted jacket uses about two to three yards of 45" fleece; a tote, half a yard to a yard; a pair of pouches, a quarter yard. Ten yards is roughly three jackets or ten to twenty bags.
- Is it microwave safe?
- No. 988 is 100% polyester and must not be used in microwave bowl cozies or hot pads. Use Pellon Wrap-N-Zap cotton batting for those. Pellon Wrap-N-Zap 22" x 10 yd
- Can I use it as batting in a quilt?
- For wall hangings, jackets and small quilted pieces, yes; quilt it closely so it stays put. For bed quilts, a cotton or blend batting drapes better and is cooler.
- How do I keep it from shifting while I sew?
- Baste or pin inside the seam allowance, use a light spray baste, or quilt the fleece to the fabric before assembling. Trim it from seam allowances to cut bulk.
