Description
StitchnSew Sew-In Fleece is a lightweight padded interfacing: a needle-punched 100% polyester fleece you layer into a project and stitch in place rather than fuse. It gives soft body and a little loft to totes, pouches, placemats, table runners, ironing board covers and jackets, and it is often used as the lining or batting layer in small quilts and wall hangings. Because nothing is ironed on, the fabric keeps its natural drape.
Sew-in is the right choice when heat is the enemy: textured, embellished, loosely woven, napped and other heat-sensitive fabrics that a fusible could mark or distort. It is also simply a preference for many bag makers who like to quilt the fleece to the outer fabric. It is 45" wide, white, machine washable and dryable, sold as a 2-yard cut (45" x 72") or a 15-yard bolt. If you want the same soft body with an iron-on backing, use a fusible fleece such as Pellon 987F.

- Sew-in fleece vs fusible fleece: which should I use?
- Same loft and softness; the difference is how it stays put. Fusible fleece irons onto the fabric, which speeds up bag making and keeps layers from shifting while you sew. Sew-in fleece is pinned or basted and then quilted or caught in the seams, so it is the one for heat-sensitive fabrics, textured or embellished fabrics, and anyone who prefers not to fuse. - Fleece or foam for a structured bag?
- Fleece gives a soft, padded bag that folds flat. A foam stabilizer such as Soft and Stable or Flex-Foam gives a bag that stands up on its own with a smooth, rounded look. - Can I use it as batting in a small quilt or wall hanging?
- Yes. It is commonly used as the middle layer in placemats, table runners, mug rugs and wall hangings, where its stability and light loft are a plus. For bed quilts use a true quilt batting, which drapes better at that size. It is polyester, so keep it out of microwave projects. Shop quilt batting
- 2-yard cut or 15-yard bolt?
- A 2-yard cut is 45" x 72", enough for a few totes or a set of placemats and runners. The 15-yard bolt is for bag makers and anyone who uses fleece in most projects; it is the same product at bolt length.
- Does sew-in fleece shrink?
- It is 100% polyester, so shrinkage is negligible and it does not need pre-washing. Pre-wash the fabric if the finished item will be laundered, and wash the finished project as the fabric allows; the fleece itself is machine washable and dryable.
