Description
Pellon SF101 Shape-Flex is the all-purpose woven cotton fusible interfacing, the one our customers buy more than any other. Because it is woven rather than non-woven it moves with the fabric and gives a crisp, clean finish without feeling stiff or papery. Fused to light to medium woven and knit fabrics it firms up collars, cuffs, yokes, pockets, facings and other detail areas, and it is the standard interfacing for bag making and for backing needlework and punch embroidery.
It is intended for fabrics such as oxford cloth, chambray, gingham, madras, tattersall, pincord, flannel and polyester/cotton blends, and it is the interfacing most quilters use to stabilize t-shirts and knit blocks. Once fused it is machine washable and holds its bond through normal laundering. The black 20" x 10-yard bolt is the same Shape-Flex in black, so it stays invisible behind dark garments, black bag fabrics and dark t-shirts where a white interfacing could shadow through at facings and seam allowances.

- When do I need black Shape-Flex instead of white?
- Whenever the fabric is dark enough that white would show: black, navy, charcoal, deep red and dark prints, especially at facings, seam allowances and anywhere light passes through a single layer. - Black SF101 vs black 911FF?
- Same comparison as the white versions: SF101 is a woven cotton with body for collars, cuffs and bags; 911FF is a featherweight non-woven that disappears into soft, dark blouses and sheers. For dark t-shirt quilts and bags choose black SF101. Pellon 911FF Featherweight 20" x 10 yd, black
- Which side is the fusible side?
- The fusible side has the slightly rough, bumpy adhesive dots; the other side is smooth woven cotton. Place the dotted side against the wrong side of your fabric and press with a hot, dry iron using firm pressure for several seconds across the whole piece, lifting and moving the iron rather than sliding it.
- Do I need to pre-shrink SF101?
- It is 100% cotton, so it can shrink a little. If the project will be washed, pre-shrink the interfacing by soaking it in warm water, letting it drip and drying it flat before fusing, or at least pre-wash the fashion fabric so both layers have shrunk once. For bags and items that will not be laundered, fuse it straight from the package.
- Is SF101 right for a t-shirt quilt?
- Yes, it is the interfacing most t-shirt quilt instructions call for. Fuse it to the back of each shirt before cutting so the knit stops stretching, then square up and piece as usual. It keeps the blocks soft enough to quilt and stable enough to sew straight.
- SF101 vs Craft-Fuse 808 or Decor-Bond 809 for bags?
- SF101 gives fabric body and a crisp hand while staying flexible; it is the choice for bag exteriors, linings and pockets that should still fold and drape. Craft-Fuse 808 and Decor-Bond 809 are stiff non-wovens for structure that holds a shape, such as box bags and bins.
