Description
Pellon soy/cotton batting with scrim on a 90" x 30 yard roll is the production format for longarmers and studios that want a soft, thin natural-blend batting at the lowest cost per yard. Ninety inches covers queen tops and smaller, and 30 yards is about ten queens. For throws and crafts only, the 60" x 30 yd roll wastes less width.
The blend is thin, 1/16" loft, and very easy to needle by hand. Soy fiber breathes, absorbs moisture, resists creasing and dries fast, and the scrim lets you quilt up to 10" apart without the batting shifting. Shrinkage is only 0-3%, so pre-washing is unnecessary and the finished quilt stays flat rather than crinkling. Washable by hand or machine and dry cleanable.
This roll ships to you directly from Pellon.

Compare and choose
- How many quilts will a 90" x 30 yard roll make?
- A queen uses about 108" of length, so one roll is about ten queens. Twins cut with the 72" side along the roll give you fifteen; throws, eighteen.
- Will 90" cover a king?
- No. King tops are 108" to 120" wide and the soy blend is not made in a wider roll. For kings on a frame, use a 120" roll from another line, such as Hobbs Heirloom 100% cotton with scrim. Hobbs Heirloom 100% Cotton with Scrim 120" roll
- Soy/cotton vs Hobbs Heirloom 100% cotton with scrim on a roll?
- Hobbs Heirloom cotton with scrim is a Linda's stocked roll, 96" wide, 100% cotton with 3-5% shrinkage and a traditional crinkled finish. The Pellon soy blend is softer and thinner, shrinks only 0-3%, and needles more easily by hand. Choose Hobbs for the classic cotton look; choose soy for drape, hand-needling and minimal shrinkage. Hobbs Heirloom 100% Cotton with Scrim 96" roll
- Do I need to pre-wash soy/cotton batting?
- No. Shrinkage is 0-3%, so the quilt keeps its size and finish after the first wash. If you want a crinkled, antique look, choose a cotton batting with 3-5% shrinkage instead.
- Can I use soy/cotton batting for microwave bowl cozies?
- No. The polypropylene scrim is a synthetic and can melt, and soy fiber is not rated for the microwave. Use Pellon Wrap-N-Zap, which is 100% natural cotton with no scrim, with cotton thread. Pellon Wrap-N-Zap 45" x 1 yd package
- Is natural soy/cotton batting okay under white fabric?
- Natural batting is slightly off-white and can show faintly through very thin white fabric. Under most white and pastel cottons it is fine; for a pure white top, Pellon white cotton with scrim is the safer choice. Pellon White Cotton with Scrim queen package
- Do you ship batting rolls to Alaska or Hawaii?
- No. Rolls and boards ship only to the 48 contiguous states; orders from Alaska, Hawaii or outside the US are cancelled and refunded. Pre-cut packages ship to all locations. Shop packaged batting
