Description
Quilters Dream Angel is the only inherently flame-retardant quilt batting we stock. It is made from 100% inherently flame-retardant fibers: the protection is in the fiber itself, not a chemical coating, so it does not wash out, and Quilters Dream states it contains no PBDEs. Our customers buy it for children's and baby quilts, quilts for care homes and hospitals, and any gift quilt where a flame barrier matters. This package is pre-cut in eight sizes from Craft to King, including a 60" x 60" throw.
Angel is a Select loft, the versatile mid weight, blended from two types of flame-retardant fiber that are carded, crosslapped and needle-punched into a soft, cozy batting with good drape and resistance to creasing. Rather than melting or flowing when exposed to flame, the fibers char, which helps the batting keep its thermal-barrier properties. Quilters Dream reports independent laboratory testing of a quilt-sandwich construction to international standards and the Technical Draft CAL 604 guideline. Quilt up to 6" apart by hand or machine. No pre-washing; shrinkage is minimal; machine wash and dry the finished quilt.
Angel is light creamy natural in color and is made only in the Select loft. For a conventional batting with the same mid loft, see the Select Natural Cotton package or the Select Poly package.

- Is Dream Angel treated with flame-retardant chemicals?
- No. The flame retardance is inherent to the fibers themselves, not a surface coating, and Quilters Dream states the batting contains no PBDEs. That is also why the protection survives machine washing and drying.
- Dream Angel vs Dream Poly or Dream Cotton: how does it quilt?
- Much like the Select loft of Dream Poly: soft, drapey, crease-resistant, machine washable with minimal shrinkage. The practical difference is the quilting distance, which is 6" for Angel against 8" for Dream Cotton and 12" for Dream Poly. Neither of those is flame retardant, so if the fire barrier is the point, Angel is the only choice in the line. Select Poly package
- Is Angel a good choice for a baby or crib quilt?
- Yes; it is the reason most of our customers buy it. The Crib (60" x 46") and Throw (60" x 60") sizes cover a crib quilt with room to trim. It is soft, washes well and does not need pre-washing.
- Does the flame-retardant property make the batting stiff?
- No. Because nothing is applied to the surface, Angel has the soft hand and drape of a conventional needle-punched batting and resists creasing. It will not feel like a treated fabric.
- Can I use Dream Angel in a microwave bowl cozy?
- No. Flame retardant is not the same as microwave safe; Angel is a synthetic fiber. For microwave projects use 100% cotton batting with no scrim or Pellon Wrap-N-Zap, with cotton fabric and cotton thread. Pellon Wrap-N-Zap
- Do I need to pre-wash Dream Angel?
- No. Pre-washing is not required and shrinkage is minimal. Machine wash and dry the finished quilt; the flame-retardant properties are designed to remain after laundering.
