Description

Quilters Dream Request White Cotton on the roll, for longarm and production quilters who want the thinnest Dream Cotton loft by the yard. Request is a lightweight, consistent 100% cotton developed for hand quilters and fine micro-stitching; on the longarm, float the top rather than pinning the batting. Each roll is 120" wide by 30 yards. The 120" width is the king roll: it covers king tops in one piece and cuts queen, full and twin batts sideways with little waste, around nine king quilts per roll. The white version keeps white, pastel and light-negative-space quilts clean where a natural batting would shadow through.

Dream Cotton is mechanically cleaned without chemicals, then carded, crosslapped and needle-punched. There is no scrim, resin or glue in it, which is why it keeps a soft drape and why hand and machine needles glide through it. You can quilt as closely as you like or up to 8" apart, and the construction resists shifting and lumping. Shrinkage is minimal, so do not pre-wash; machine wash and dry the finished quilt. Cotton Incorporated certifies it as 100% cotton (the black seal), and it carries a thermal value of R=3.8: warm in winter, yet it wicks moisture in summer.

This roll is a pre-order item and ships in roughly 8 weeks.

Compare and choose

Do I need the 120" roll for a king quilt?
Yes. A king top runs about 120" x 120", and the 93" roll is not wide enough to cover it in one piece. The 120" roll also cuts queen, full and twin batts with less waste by turning the cut sideways, so many studios run only this width.
Roll or pre-cut package: which Request cotton format should I buy?
The roll is the lowest cost per yard and the right choice if you quilt for customers or finish several quilts a year. The pre-cut package is one batt sized for one quilt, from Craft to King, and ships without the roll lead time. Quilters Dream Request White Cotton package
Request, Select, Deluxe or Supreme: which Dream Cotton loft do I need?
They are the same 100% cotton at four thicknesses. Request is the thinnest, developed for hand quilters and flat, drapey quilts. Select is the mid loft and the most popular all-rounder. Deluxe is heavier, adding warmth, weight and stitch definition for machine-quilted projects. Supreme is the heaviest. All four quilt up to 8" apart and are needle-punched with no scrim.
Quilters Dream Cotton vs Warm & Natural: what is the difference?
Warm & Natural is needle-punched cotton with a scrim, so it is firmer and flatter and can be quilted up to 10" apart. Dream Cotton has no scrim, resin or glue, so it drapes more softly and needles more easily by hand, with an 8" quilting distance. Choose Dream Cotton for hand quilting and drape; choose Warm & Natural for maximum stability and wide stitch spacing. Warm & Natural 90" x 40 yd roll
Can I run Request loft on a longarm?
Yes, by floating the top. Request is thin and has no scrim, so it should not be pinned to the leaders and stretched on its own; lay it over the backing, float the top and advance normally. For a batting that pins and rolls like a scrimmed cotton, use Select or the Hobbs cotton with scrim. Hobbs 100% Cotton with Scrim 96" roll
Do I need to pre-wash Dream Cotton?
No. Pre-washing is not recommended. The cotton is exceptionally free of seed remnants and shrinkage is minimal, so expect a soft finish rather than the heavy crinkle of a high-shrink cotton. Machine wash and dry the finished quilt.
Can I use this batting for microwave bowl cozies and hot pads?
Yes, with care. Dream Cotton is 100% cotton with no scrim, resin or polyester, so it is suitable for microwave projects when you also use 100% cotton fabric and cotton thread. Never use the Dream Poly, Puff, Green, Angel or 80/20 battings in a microwave. For projects built around the microwave, Pellon Wrap-N-Zap is made for the job. Pellon Wrap-N-Zap
Do you ship batting rolls to Alaska or Hawaii?
No. Rolls and boards ship only to the 48 contiguous states; orders from Alaska, Hawaii or outside the US are cancelled and refunded. Pre-cut packages ship to all locations. Shop packaged batting
