Description

Softweb is a paper-backed fusible web for appliqué and fused projects where you want the finished piece to stay soft. The ultra-fine web holds appliqués securely without adding bulk, fuses evenly without bubbling, and stays soft enough to quilt through by hand or machine.

It suits quilters who fuse lots of appliqué shapes and then stitch the edges, and sewists who need a light bond for trims and hems. The 14" x 5 yard length gives plenty of room to trace several pattern pieces side by side.

Trace shapes on the paper, fuse the web side to the wrong side of your appliqué fabric, cut out, peel the paper, and fuse the shape to the background. Finish the edges by hand or machine.

Compare and choose

Softweb vs Pellon Wonder-Under: which fusible web should I use?
Both are paper-backed fusible webs for appliqué. Softweb is an ultra-fine, lightweight web aimed at keeping appliqués soft and easy to quilt through. Pellon 805 Wonder-Under is the familiar standard and comes on a 17" x 10 yard bolt for bigger projects. For heavy fabrics or no-sew edges, step up to a heavier web. Pellon 805 Wonder-Under
Softweb vs Steam-A-Seam 2: what is the difference?
Steam-A-Seam 2 is tacky on both sides and repositionable, so you can stick shapes in place and move them before pressing. Softweb is a conventional paper-backed web that bonds only when pressed. Choose Steam-A-Seam 2 for layered collage and landscape appliqué you want to audition; choose Softweb for a simple, soft bond. Steam-A-Seam 2 12" x 3 yd
Which side of Softweb is fusible?
The web side. Trace on the paper, place the web side against the wrong side of your fabric and press, then cut out the shape, peel the paper and press the shape onto the background.
Will Softweb make my appliqué stiff?
It is designed not to. The ultra-fine web holds without adding bulk and is soft enough to quilt through, which is why it suits bed quilts. For no-sew edges on bags or home decor that will see wear, a heavier web gives a firmer hold.
Do I need to stitch the edges after fusing?
For anything that will be washed, yes. A light web holds the shape in place, and a blanket, satin or straight stitch around the edge keeps it there through laundering. Softweb is easy to finish by hand or machine.
