Description
Sulky Super Solvy is a clear water-soluble stabilizer that is twice as thick, heavy and strong as original Solvy. It takes a lot more stitching and tugging before it tears, so it works as a topper, a pattern guide, or a backing stabilizer, and it dissolves in water so nothing shows on the top or the back.
Choose it for dense designs on towels and napped fabrics, for traced templates you will handle a lot, and for projects where the back will be seen. The 8" width is sized for 4" x 4" and 5" x 7" hoops. For a lighter topper, original Solvy is enough; for freestanding lace, Ultra Solvy is firmer still.

Compare and choose
- Super Solvy vs original Solvy: which should I buy?
- Original Solvy is the lightweight topper and tracing film. Super Solvy is twice as thick, heavy and strong, so it holds up to dense stitching and can work as a backing on its own. If Solvy tears or perforates under your designs, step up to Super Solvy. Original Solvy 8" roll
- Can I use Super Solvy as a backing instead of a topper?
- Yes. It is strong enough to hoop as a backing on lightweight and sheer fabrics where you want the stabilizer to rinse away completely. For freestanding lace with no fabric at all, Ultra Solvy gives a firmer base. Ultra Solvy 8"
- How do I remove Super Solvy?
- Tear away the excess, then rinse the rest away in water. Because it is heavier than original Solvy, give it a longer soak or a second rinse so no residue is left stiffening the stitches.
- When should I choose wash-away over tear-away or cut-away?
- Use wash-away when no stabilizer may show: sheers, towels with a topper, freestanding work, and reversible pieces. Use tear-away on stable wovens and cut-away on knits and stretch fabrics, where the stabilizer needs to stay in.
- Which width should I buy?
- The 8" width is sized for 4" x 4" and 5" x 7" hoops. Pick the width that is at least 2" bigger than your hoop on each side. Super Solvy 12" x 9 1/2 yd roll
- What is the Pellon equivalent?
- Pellon 551 Sol-U-Film is Pellon's clear water-soluble film for the same topper and backing jobs, in an 8" x 9 yard package. Pellon 551 Sol-U-Film
