Description
Warm Window is not a quilt batting. It is an insulated shade fabric for making Roman shades and other window treatments that cut heat loss in winter and solar gain in summer. The 54" x 15 yard bolt covers several windows; most residential windows are under 54" wide, so each shade is one cut of the bolt's length. If you want a thermal layer for oven mitts, lunch bags or coolers rather than windows, you want Insul-Bright instead.
The manufacturer rates a properly constructed Warm Window shade at up to 80% less winter heat loss and up to 79% less summer solar heat gain through the window, with room-darkening and noise reduction as side benefits, which makes it popular for bedrooms, nurseries and home offices. Shades are built with basic seams and hems, and no-sew versions can be assembled with Steam-A-Seam 2.
Finished shades are cleaned by non-immersion methods only; follow the manufacturer's care instructions for your treatment. Thermal-performance figures depend on proper construction, fit, installation and window type.

Compare and choose
- Warm Window vs Insul-Bright: which thermal product do I need?
- Warm Window is a heavy insulated fabric made for window shades; it is the one to buy if the project hangs in a window. Insul-Bright is a thin reflective batting for oven mitts, casserole carriers, lunch bags, ironing board covers and cooler liners. They are not interchangeable: Insul-Bright is far too light to insulate a window, and Warm Window is too thick and stiff for a pot holder. Insul-Bright 45" x 40 yd roll
- How many shades will 15 yards make?
- It depends on window height. Each shade is a cut from the 15-yard (540") length at up to 54" wide, so a 60" tall window uses about 1 2/3 yards plus hem and header allowance; the bolt covers roughly eight windows of that height. Measure every window and add the allowances in your shade pattern before ordering.
- Do I have to sew Warm Window shades?
- No. Sewn shades use basic seams and hems and are within reach of a confident beginner. For a no-sew shade, the manufacturer recommends Steam-A-Seam 2 double-stick fusible web for the construction steps that suit it.
- Will Warm Window darken the room?
- Yes. In addition to insulating, it provides room-darkening and reduces outside noise, which is why our customers use it in bedrooms, nurseries and home offices.
- How do I wash a Warm Window shade?
- Do not immerse it. Use the non-immersion cleaning methods in the manufacturer's care instructions, such as vacuuming or spot cleaning, and keep the finished shade out of the washing machine.
- Is Warm Window a quilt batting?
- No. It is a layered insulating fabric for window treatments and is too heavy and stiff for a quilt. For a quilt you want Warm & Natural, Warm & White or Warm & Plush. Shop quilt batting
- Do you ship batting rolls to Alaska or Hawaii?
- No. Rolls and boards ship only to the 48 contiguous states; orders from Alaska, Hawaii or outside the US are cancelled and refunded. Pre-cut packages ship to all locations. Shop packaged batting
