Description
Sulky Soft N Sheer Extra is an iron-on cut-away stabilizer: one and a half times as heavy as original Soft N Sheer, with a fusible coating so you press it to the back of the fabric before hooping. Fusing stops knits from stretching and shifting while you hoop and stitch, and because it is a cut-away, it stays in to support the design through laundering and wearing.
Sulky calls it the perfect weight for knits, and a good alternative to fleece or batting in quilted garments. This roll is 12" wide, which covers 4" x 4" through 6" x 10" hoops, and an 8" x 12" hoop when the cut is turned. For a lighter, sew-in version, see Soft N Sheer.

Compare and choose
- Soft N Sheer Extra vs original Soft N Sheer?
- Extra is one and a half times as heavy and fusible. Original is lighter and sew-in. Choose Extra for knits that need more support or slide in the hoop; choose original for t-shirts and light fabrics where you want the least bulk. Sulky Soft N Sheer 12" x 11 yd
- Which side is fusible and how do I fuse it?
- The coated side is the fusible side; it feels slightly rough or shiny compared with the plain side. Place it coated side down on the wrong side of the fabric and press with a dry iron, testing heat on a scrap first. Let it cool before hooping.
- Soft N Sheer Extra vs OESD PolyMesh Fusible?
- Both are fusible cut-aways for knits that should stay soft. PolyMesh Fusible is a lightweight no-show mesh, good for sweater knits and lightweight wovens; Soft N Sheer Extra is a little heavier and gives more body. Pick PolyMesh Fusible for the lightest garments. OESD PolyMesh Fusible 15"
- Can I really use it instead of batting in a quilted garment?
- Sulky suggests it as an alternative to fleece or batting in quilted garments. It gives body and holds stitches without the loft of batting, so the garment stays thin and drapes better. If you want visible puffiness in the quilting, use a thin batting instead.
- Can I use Soft N Sheer Extra on woven fabrics?
- Yes. Sulky positions it for lightweight knits and wovens: it gives permanent stability and its stretch resistance keeps the design from pulling or sagging during stitching, laundering and wearing. On crisp, stable wovens that do not need permanent support, a tear-away such as Sulky Totally Stable is the lighter choice. Sulky Totally Stable 12" x 12 yd
