Description
Hobbs Heirloom Wool is prized for its soft, luxurious hand and the way it makes piecing and stitching come alive. Made from 100% superwashed wool, it needles beautifully, holds its loft and springs back, so quilting lines stay crisp and defined. The roll is 108" wide by 25 yards and covers queen and oversized-queen tops in one piece.
Despite its plush feel, wool is lightweight and breathable, comfortable in hot and cold climates alike. Superwashing smooths the fibers so the batting is pleasant to handle and resists bearding and fiber migration.

Compare and choose
- Wool vs 80/20: which should I choose?
- Wool has two to three times the loft of 80/20, so quilting designs stand out in relief and the quilt feels plush yet light. 80/20 is flatter, heavier and less expensive. Choose wool for show quilts and texture; 80/20 for everyday bed quilts. Hobbs 80/20 96" roll
- Does wool batting beard or shrink?
- Superwashed Hobbs wool is resin-bonded and resists bearding and migration. Expect modest first-wash shrinkage; wash cool and dry low or flat. Do not pre-wash.
- Wool vs Polydown for loft?
- Both are lofty. Wool is a natural fiber that breathes and has a springier, warmer hand; Polydown is polyester, lighter, does not shrink and costs less. Wool for heirloom and show work, Polydown for comforters and budget loft. Hobbs Polydown 108" roll
- 96" vs 108" vs 120": which width for my quilt?
- Pick a batting at least 4" wider than the shorter side of your quilt top. A 108" roll covers queen tops (about 90" x 108") with room to spare and oversized queens, but a true king (108" to 120" wide) does not fit in one piece; for king, use a 120" roll. 120" roll
- Do you ship batting rolls to Alaska or Hawaii?
- No. Rolls and boards ship only to the 48 contiguous states; orders from Alaska, Hawaii or outside the US are cancelled and refunded. Pre-cut packages ship to all locations. Shop packaged batting
- Do I need to pre-wash this batting?
- No. Pre-washing is not recommended. Expect 3-5% shrinkage in the first wash, which gives the soft, crinkled finish most quilters want.
