Linda's Deluxe Cotton/Poly, our house batting made for us by Hobbs, cut from the 96" roll in whole yards. Order one unit for each yard you need: add 4 to your cart and you get 4 yards of 96" wide batting. This is the format for trying Deluxe before committing to a roll, and for odd-size quilts where a pre-cut package would waste batting.
Deluxe is a 60% cotton, 40% polyester blend with a fuller loft than a standard 80/20, about 1/4". The cotton gives a soft, warm, breathable layer; the polyester adds strength, shape retention and crisp stitch definition, which is why it suits machine and longarm quilting so well. It is needle-punched, so it does not shift or bunch under the needle, and the loft stays even across the width. The natural cream color is best under medium and dark fabrics; test under very light tops. Machine washable and dryable; Hobbs does not recommend pre-washing.

Each unit is one yard (36") of 96" wide batting. The longer side of the cut runs across the width when it fits; yardage is rounded up to whole yards and assumes no waste.
Compare and choose
- How many yards do I need for a queen quilt?
- Three. A queen package is 90" x 108"; with the 90" side across the 96" width you need 108" of length, which is exactly 3 yards. Twin (72" x 90") and throw (60" x 72") each fit in 2 yards with the longer side turned across the width.
- Linda's Deluxe vs Hobbs Heirloom 80/20: what is the difference?
- Both are cotton-poly blends made by Hobbs, needle-punched, 3-5% shrinkage, quilted within 4". Heirloom is 80/20 with about 1/8" loft and a flat traditional look. Deluxe is 60/40 with about 1/4" loft, so quilting shows in more relief and the quilt feels a little fuller and more resilient. If you want the classic flat heirloom finish, buy 80/20; if you want more loft without going to wool or poly, buy Deluxe. Hobbs 80/20 96" by the yard
- By the yard, package or roll: which format should I buy?
- By the yard is the flexible middle option: exact lengths, nothing to store, and it covers sizes a package cannot. The queen 3-yard and twin 2-yard packages are the same batting pre-cut for one quilt. The 30-yard roll is the lowest cost per yard for longarmers who use Deluxe steadily. - Is it right for a white or pastel quilt?
- Test first. Deluxe is a natural cream and Hobbs rates it good, not excellent, under light fabrics; it can shadow faintly through white. For white and pastel tops we recommend Hobbs Bleached 80/20, which is cut by the yard at 108". Hobbs Bleached 80/20 108" by the yard
- Will the 96" width cover a king quilt?
- No. A king top is 108" to 120" wide and needs a 120" batting in one piece. Deluxe is only made in 96"; for a king, order the Hobbs Heirloom 80/20 120" by the yard. Hobbs 80/20 120" by the yard
- Do I need to pre-wash it?
- No. Hobbs does not recommend pre-washing. Expect 3-5% shrinkage on the first wash of the finished quilt, which gives the soft crinkle most quilters want.
