Description
Kimberbell Medium Cut-Away Precuts are 40 sheets of medium-weight non-woven cut-away stabilizer, each 12" x 10", ready to hoop with no measuring or cutting. Cut-away stays behind the design as permanent reinforcement: after embroidering, you trim the excess with scissors. It is the stabilizer for dense designs on wovens, knits, stretchy fabrics and other projects that need permanent support.
Medium Cut-Away handles medium to heavy stitch count designs and works with soft as well as crisp fabrics. Use it on medium-weight knits and lightweight denim. For the lightest backing behind quilt blocks, use Light Mesh; for the heaviest designs, Heavy Cut-Away.
A 12" x 10" sheet fits 5" x 7" hoops with room to spare. For larger hoops or to cut your own sizes, buy the 12" x 10 yard roll.

- Precuts or roll: which is the better buy?
- The 12" x 10 yard roll lets you cut any length, which suits large hoops and odd shapes. The 40-pack of 12" x 10" sheets saves measuring and fits 5" x 7" hoops and smaller with margin. Buy precuts for convenience in one hoop size, the roll for flexibility. 12" x 10 yd roll
- Do I need cut-away for a T-shirt or sweatshirt?
- Yes. Knits and stretchy fabrics need a cut-away that stays in, because tear-away leaves the stitches unsupported and the design distorts after washing. Medium Cut-Away is a good everyday choice for medium-weight knits and sweatshirts.
- Medium vs Heavy Cut-Away: which should I use?
- Both are for medium to heavy stitch counts. Medium is more flexible and suits medium-weight knits and soft fabrics. Heavy gives more support for very dense designs and heavier fabrics. If a medium-weight backing puckers, step up to heavy. Kimberbell Heavy Cut-Away 20"
- Tear-away vs cut-away vs wash-away: which Kimberbell stabilizer do I need?
- Tear-away is for stable, non-stretch fabrics where no permanent backing is needed: quilting cotton, denim, canvas, towels. Cut-away stays behind the design and is for knits, stretchy fabrics and dense designs that need permanent support. Wash-away dissolves in water and is for freestanding lace, cutwork and sheer fabrics where nothing can remain.
- How do I trim cut-away after stitching?
- Unhoop, then trim about 1/4" from the outside of the stitching with curved embroidery scissors, keeping the blades flat and away from the fabric. The stabilizer under the design stays for good.
