Description
Ultralight Mesh Cut-Away is the featherweight cut-away in the Kimberbell line. Like all cut-aways it stays in the project as permanent reinforcement, so dense designs on wovens, knits and stretchy fabrics keep their shape. After embroidering, trim the excess away with scissors.
Because it is so light, it disappears into the fabric behind a quilt block and lies smooth and taut without stretching. That makes it a good fit for baby quilts and in-the-hoop piecing projects where a heavier backing would add bulk. The 12" x 10 yard roll covers hoops up to about 8" x 10". Kimberbell Cut-Away also comes in light, medium and heavy weights.

Cuts are the hoop size plus about 2" each way, laid along the 10-yard length at the 12" width and turned where that fits more. Counts are approximate and assume no waste.

- Ultralight, light, medium or heavy cut-away: which weight?
- Go lighter as the fabric gets lighter and the stitch count gets lower. Ultralight Mesh is for quilt blocks, baby items and thin fabrics where bulk or show-through matters. - Why use a cut-away instead of a tear-away?
- Cut-away stays behind the design permanently, so the stitches keep their support through every wash. That matters on knits and stretchy fabrics, which pull a design out of shape once a tear-away is removed.
- Will mesh cut-away show through light fabric?
- Featherweight mesh is chosen precisely to avoid that: it disappears behind the block. Trim it close to the design, leaving a small margin, so the edge does not show through.
- How does it compare to OESD PolyMesh or Sulky Soft 'n Sheer?

- How do I trim cut-away stabilizer?
- Unhoop, then trim the stabilizer about 1/4" outside the design with curved embroidery scissors. Do not cut right against the stitches, or the edge can pull loose.
