Description
Kimberbell Light Mesh Cut-Away is a lightweight non-woven mesh cut-away stabilizer on a 20" x 10 yard roll. It stays behind the design for permanent reinforcement, then you trim the excess close to the stitching with scissors. It is smooth and taut without stretching, and it disappears into the fabric behind a quilt block, which makes it the cut-away for quilt blocks and piecing projects where a heavier backing would add stiffness or shadow through.
Cut-away is the right choice for dense designs on wovens, knits, stretchy fabrics and anything that needs permanent support. For heavier stitch counts use Kimberbell Medium Cut-Away; for the lightest, softest backing on baby quilts, use Ultralight Mesh.
Important: because of a manufacturing error, Light Mesh Cut-Away purchased after January 1, 2024, has a melting point and will not tolerate a hot iron. To protect your project, use a low temperature and a pressing cloth, or iron from the fabric side.

Cuts are the hoop size plus about 2" each way, laid along the 10-yard length at the 20" width and turned where that fits more. Counts are approximate and assume no waste.

- Can I iron Light Mesh Cut-Away?
- Carefully. Light Mesh bought after January 1, 2024, has a melting point because of a manufacturing error and will not tolerate a hot iron. Use a low temperature and a pressing cloth, or press from the fabric side.

- Tear-away is for stable, non-stretch fabrics where no permanent backing is needed: quilting cotton, denim, canvas, towels. Cut-away stays behind the design and is for knits, stretchy fabrics and dense designs that need permanent support. Wash-away dissolves in water and is for freestanding lace, cutwork and sheer fabrics where nothing can remain.
- How close should I trim cut-away?
- Trim about 1/4" from the outside of the stitching with curved embroidery scissors, keeping the blade flat and away from the fabric. Leaving a small margin keeps the edge of the design supported after washing.
- How does Light Mesh compare with Sulky Soft 'n Sheer or OESD PolyMesh?
