Why Hobbs 80/20 as the first batting?

Because it is what most longarmers run and what most customers expect: soft, low loft, needle-punched so it loads and quilts without shifting, and forgiving of tension while you learn. The 96" width covers crib through queen, and 30 yards is about ten queen quilts, so you will not be reordering batting during your first month.

Will the 96" roll handle a king quilt?

No. A king top is 108" to 120" wide and needs a 120" roll in one piece. If king quilts are in your plans, the King-Size Starter Bundle pairs the 120" roll with the same white Glide spool.

What is the Glide color card for?

It is a printed card showing every Glide thread color as real thread, so you can lay it on a quilt top and pick the shade that blends or contrasts the way you want. Screens shift color; the card does not. Most of our longarm customers keep one at the machine.

What do the needle alignment magnets do?

They hold the needle at the correct rotation while you tighten the set screw, so the scarf faces the right way every time. A needle set even slightly off causes skipped stitches and thread breaks, and alignment is the first thing we check when a new owner calls with stitch problems. Two magnets means one at the machine and one in the drawer.

Do you ship this kit to Alaska or Hawaii?

No. The kit includes a batting roll, and rolls ship only to the 48 contiguous states; orders from Alaska, Hawaii or outside the US are cancelled and refunded. Pre-cut packages ship to all locations.

Do I need to pre-wash the batting?

No. Hobbs does not recommend pre-washing. Expect 3-5% shrinkage on the first wash of the finished quilt, which gives the soft crinkle most quilters want.

The batting is the most-used roll in our store: 80% cotton, 20% polyester, needle-punched, about 1/8" loft, soft drape and crisp stitch definition, 96" wide so it covers everything through queen. Glide is our best-selling longarm thread, a smooth trilobal polyester, and white is the most versatile first color. The printed color card shows every Glide color so you can match thread to a top without guessing from a screen, and the alignment magnets position the needle correctly on every needle change. Because it contains a batting roll, this kit ships only to the 48 contiguous states.
