Description
Pellon 380 Soft-N-Stay is a lightweight sew-in cut-away: it hoops under the fabric, stays with the garment through wear and laundering, and the excess is trimmed away with scissors after stitching. The soft 100% nylon non-woven is what sets it apart from firmer cut-aways. It does not scratch, so it is the stabilizer our customers reach for on children's wear, tees and anything that touches skin.
Use it on knits, sweater knits and open-weave fabrics, where a tear-away would leave the design unsupported. The 20" x 10 yard bolt cuts every hoop size up to 8" x 12" efficiently; the 12" x 11 yard package is the smaller buy for 4" x 4" and 5" x 7" hoops. Cuts are the hoop size plus about 2" each way, laid along the 10-yard length at the 20" width and turned where that fits more. Counts are approximate and assume no waste.

- Soft-N-Stay is a cut-away: it stays in the garment and keeps supporting the stitches through washing, which knits and stretch fabrics need. - Soft-N-Stay vs 333 Ultra Weave: sew-in or fusible?
- Both stay in the project. Soft-N-Stay is sew-in nylon you hoop with the fabric; nothing is ironed, so it is safe on heat-sensitive fabrics and sweater knits. Ultra Weave is a one-sided fusible that fixes lightweight fabric before hooping and covers the stitch back. If your fabric shifts in the hoop, 333; if your fabric cannot take an iron, 380. - Why nylon, and will it feel scratchy?
- The nylon non-woven is soft and thin, closer to a sheer mesh than to the stiff polyester cut-aways sold for jackets and caps. That is the reason it is specified for children's wear and anything worn against skin. Trim the excess close to the design with curved scissors for the smoothest back.
- Package or bolt: which Soft-N-Stay should I buy?
- The 12" x 11 yard package covers 4" x 4" and 5" x 7" hoops and takes little space. The 20" x 10 yard bolt is the better value for larger hoops or frequent use. The stabilizer is the same. Pellon 380 12" x 11 yard package
