Do I need the 20" bolt or the 12" package?

The 12" x 6 yard package is fine for occasional small-item work. The 20" x 10 yard bolt has roughly five and a half times the area, cuts two pieces across the width for 4" and 5" x 7" hoops, and covers 8" x 10" and larger hoops in one piece. If you embroider small items weekly, the bolt is the better buy.

Stick-N-Tear vs OESD Sticky-Back Tear-Away: what is the difference?

Both are self-adhesive tear-aways in 20" widths. OESD Sticky-Back comes as a 20" x 5 yard roll; Stick-N-Tear comes on a 20" x 10 yard bolt. The job is identical: hoop the stabilizer, peel, stick the item, stitch, tear away.

Sticky tear-away or plain tear-away?

Use a plain sew-in tear-away such as 835 Stitch-N-Tear Lite when the fabric hoops easily and you want the cheapest clean tear-away. Use Stick-N-Tear when the item cannot be hooped, when it is too small, or when hoop marks would show.

How do I hoop and use it?

Hoop the stabilizer paper side up, score the paper inside the hoop with a pin and peel it off, press the item onto the exposed adhesive, stitch, then tear away from the back. On delicate or stretchy items, add a second plain stabilizer beneath for support.

Does it leave residue on the needle?

Pellon states it leaves no residue on your needles. Wipe the needle after very dense designs as a precaution.

How many hoopings does a 20" x 10 yard bolt give?

Ten yards is 360" long. Cutting two 10" x 6" pieces across the width gives about 120 pieces for a 4" x 4" hoop; two 10" x 9" pieces give about 80 for a 5" x 7" hoop; a full 20" x 12" piece gives about 30 for an 8" x 10" hoop.

Pellon 841 Stick-N-Tear is a pressure-sensitive, tear-away embroidery stabilizer. You hoop the stabilizer by itself, score and peel the paper, and stick the item to it, so socks, cuffs, collars, ribbon, silk and anything that shows hoop marks can be embroidered without being hooped. The 20" x 10 yard bolt is the studio size: wide enough to cut two 4" x 4" or 5" x 7" hoop pieces side by side, and long enough for hundreds of small jobs.

It gives body and support during machine embroidery and stitching, leaves no residue on your needle and tears away cleanly. It is 60% polyester, 40% rayon and used in or without a hoop. For occasional use, the 12" x 6 yard package is the same product in a smaller roll.
