Description
Pellon 987F Fusible Fleece in a 2.5" strip is the same one-sided fusible fleece as the bolt, pre-cut to jelly-roll width so you can press it straight onto 2.5" strips for jelly-roll rugs, bag straps, handles, bindings and strip-pieced projects with no cutting and no pinning. The 25-yard package is 900" of strip, about 21 strips at a standard 42" jelly-roll length.
It adds softness, body and stability, fuses to fabric, cardboard or wood, and is completely sewing-machine safe once fused. It is 100% polyester. For a longer supply there is a 50-yard strip package; for wider pieces use the 22" x 36" package or the 45" x 10 yard bolt. For a cotton batting strip that can go in the microwave, see the Pellon cotton with scrim jelly roll batting.

Compare and choose
- 25-yard or 50-yard strip: how much do I need?
- A standard jelly roll has 40 strips of about 42", or roughly 47 yards of strip. The 25-yard package covers about 21 of them, so a full jelly-roll rug needs the 50-yard package or two 25s. For straps and small strip projects, 25 yards is plenty. Pellon 987F strip, 50 yd
- Fusible fleece strip vs cotton batting strip for a jelly-roll rug?
- The cotton with scrim batting strip is the traditional rug filler: firmer, flatter, and it can be used in microwave projects. The 987F fleece strip is softer and fuses in place, so the fabric does not slide while you fold and stitch the tube, which beginners appreciate. Fleece rugs feel cushier; cotton rugs lie flatter and are more durable underfoot. Pellon cotton with scrim jelly roll batting strips
- How does this compare to Bosal In-R-Form or Flex-Foam jelly-roll strips?
- Those are foam strips, 2.25" wide, that give a thick, springy strap or rug. 987F is a thin fleece strip that gives light padding and body. Use foam when you want a plump strap or a stand-up rug edge; use fleece when you want a flatter, more flexible result. Flex-Foam 1-sided fusible strip 2.25" x 20 yd
- How do I fuse it to a strip?
- Lay the fleece adhesive side down on the wrong side of the fabric strip, cover with a press cloth and press, do not glide, for about 10 to 15 seconds per section, then let it cool before moving it. The adhesive side has a slightly shiny, dotted texture.
- Can I sew through it?
- Yes. It is completely sewing-machine safe once fused and does not gum the needle. For jelly-roll rugs use a wide zigzag and a sturdy needle through the many layers.
- Is it microwave safe?
- No. 987F is 100% polyester with a fusible adhesive and must not be used in microwave bowl cozies or hot pads. Use Pellon Wrap-N-Zap cotton batting for those. Pellon Wrap-N-Zap 45" x 1 yard
