Description

The 22" roll of Warm & Plush is for narrow work: table runners, placemats, wall hangings, quilted bags, mug rugs and the strips and panels of small quilts, where buying a 90" roll and cutting it down would waste most of it. Twenty yards at 22" wide goes a long way in runners and placemats. For quilts, use the 45" x 10 yd roll or the 90" x 25 yd roll.

Warm & Plush is The Warm Company's heaviest cotton: 100% extra-clean needled cotton with no scrim and about 50% more cotton than Warm & Natural. In a runner or placemat that means a fuller, cushioned feel and more texture from the quilting. It is soft and pliable, drapes well, and must be quilted within 6" because there is no scrim holding it together. Basting spray is not recommended; pin or thread baste instead.

No pre-washing needed. Finished pieces machine wash and dry, with about 3% to 5% shrinkage on the first wash. Use cold water to keep it at the low end.

Compare and choose

What can I make from a 22" wide roll?
Table runners (most are 12" to 18" wide), placemats, mug rugs, wall hangings under 22" wide, bag panels, pot holders and trivets that stay out of the microwave, and quilted zipper pouches. Anything wider than 22" means piecing, so for lap quilts and up buy the 45" or 90" roll. Warm & Plush 45" x 10 yd roll
Why use a heavy cotton like Warm & Plush in a table runner?
Body and texture. The extra cotton gives runners and placemats a cushioned, substantial feel and makes the quilting lines stand out, and 100% cotton with no scrim presses flat and crisp. Pieces that must lie dead flat on a wall are better in Warm & Natural.
Warm & Plush vs Warm & Natural: which should I buy?
Warm & Plush has about 50% more cotton than Warm & Natural and no scrim, so it is noticeably thicker, heavier, warmer and softer, with more drape. The trade-off is stability: without a scrim it must be quilted within 6" instead of 10", and basting spray is not recommended because repositioning can pull the fibers apart. Choose Warm & Plush for a cozy bed quilt or throw; choose Warm & Natural for wall hangings, tied quilts and anything that must stay flat. Warm & Natural batting
Warm & Plush vs Quilters Dream Deluxe or Supreme cotton: which heavy cotton?
All three are scrim-free, needle-punched 100% cotton in a heavier weight than standard cotton batting. Quilters Dream Deluxe is their mid-heavy loft and Supreme their heaviest; Warm & Plush sits in that range and is the thickest cotton The Warm Company makes. Dream Deluxe and Supreme are rated to 8" stitch spacing, Warm & Plush to 6". Any of them gives a substantial, warm cotton quilt; pick by the width and format you need. Quilters Dream Deluxe Natural Cotton package
Can I use basting spray with Warm & Plush?
The manufacturer says no. With no scrim to hold the fibers, pulling spray-basted fabric back up to reposition it can tear cotton out of the batt. Pin baste, thread baste, or load it on a frame instead. The cotton fibers grip the top and backing on their own, which helps.
How close do I have to quilt Warm & Plush?
Within 6" between lines or ties. That is closer than Warm & Natural's 10" because there is no scrim. Stitch-in-the-ditch, free-motion and tied quilts all work, and it behaves well on a floating frame.
Is Warm & Plush microwave safe for bowl cozies?
It is 100% cotton with no scrim and no polyester, so it has nothing in it that melts. Still, Pellon Wrap-N-Zap is the batting made and tested for microwave use and is what we recommend for cozies and potato bags, with cotton thread and cotton fabric. If you use Warm & Plush, keep heating times short and never microwave it with synthetic thread or fabric. Pellon Wrap-N-Zap microwave-safe batting
Do you ship batting rolls to Alaska or Hawaii?
No. Rolls and boards ship only to the 48 contiguous states; orders from Alaska, Hawaii or outside the US are cancelled and refunded. Pre-cut packages ship to all locations. Shop packaged batting
