Description

Pellon white cotton batting with scrim on a 90" x 40 yard roll is the longest roll in the line: about thirteen queen quilts of bleached cotton at the lowest cost per yard, for longarmers and studios that quilt a lot of white and light-colored tops. Ninety inches covers queen and smaller. For a wider roll, see the 96" x 30 yd roll; for a shorter commitment, the 90" x 30 yd roll.

Bleached cotton is the right choice under white and light tops, where the flecks in natural batting can shadow through. The batting is needle-punched onto a soft scrim that adds strength and stability without bunching or bearding, so you can quilt up to 10" apart. It is a low 1/16" loft that shrinks 3-5% in the first wash for a soft, lightly crinkled finish. Washable by hand or machine and dry cleanable.

This item ships to you directly from Pellon.

Compare and choose

How many quilts will a 90" x 40 yard roll make?
Forty yards is 1,440" of length: about thirteen queens, fifteen fulls, twenty twins or twenty-four throws.
40 yards or 30 yards?
Same batting, same width. The 40-yard roll costs less per yard but is heavier and needs more storage. If you quilt more than a dozen queens a year, take the 40. Pellon White Cotton with Scrim 90" x 30 yd roll
Will 90" cover a king?
No. King tops are 108" to 120" wide. Use the 120" x 120" white king package, or a stocked Hobbs 108" bleached roll. Pellon White Cotton with Scrim king package
White or natural cotton with scrim: which do I need?
They are the same Pellon batting; the white version is bleached. Natural (unbleached) is fine under most fabrics, but under white, cream or pastel tops its tiny cotton flecks can shadow through. Choose white for light quilts and natural for everything else. Pellon Natural Cotton with Scrim queen package
Pellon white cotton with scrim vs Hobbs Tuscany bleached cotton?
Hobbs Tuscany bleached cotton is a Linda's stocked, no-scrim 100% cotton with a loftier, softer hand and a 4" quilting distance. Pellon white cotton with scrim is thinner, firmer and quilts up to 10" apart. Choose Pellon for wide quilting and a flat finish; choose Tuscany for a softer, hand-quilting-friendly batting. Hobbs Tuscany 100% Bleached Cotton package
Do I need to pre-wash this batting?
No. Expect 3-5% shrinkage in the first wash of the finished quilt, which gives the soft, slightly crinkled look most quilters want from cotton. If you want a quilt that stays perfectly flat, pre-wash the batting gently by soaking, or choose a polyester batting with 0-3% shrinkage.
How far apart can I quilt it?
Up to 10" apart, because the scrim holds the cotton fibers in place. That is wide enough for simple edge-to-edge designs, big-stitch hand quilting and even tying, though closer quilting always gives a more durable quilt.
Do you ship batting rolls to Alaska or Hawaii?
No. Rolls and boards ship only to the 48 contiguous states; orders from Alaska, Hawaii or outside the US are cancelled and refunded. Pre-cut packages ship to all locations. Shop packaged batting
